No Fix for quickfix 255 not working on many systems?

I guess they've decided that we don't amount to much.... Those of us who can't install 255 (yes there are a number of us) are still waiting for this to get resolved... I'm wondering if it's gonna get fixed at all and if I'm wasting my time working with X1b as it will no longer be able to update and work on my machine....

Should I be looking for a new DAW software? I sure am feeling as tho I should be.... Extreme dislike of most of the new X1 along with it now losing ability to play nicely with my interface.... BTW, I've been using this inteface (or versions of it) for near 10 years and this is the worst it's been.... Worked well everyehere else! <sigh>...

So.... Bakers....

Bake me a new fix that will work for my SSL/Soundscape Mixtreme 192 in WDM/KS mode!!!

Please?

Keni

Hey Keni, I had the worst results on my system with build 255. I went back to 8.5 and hated it. I have gone to build 246 and find it runs the best on my system. Fortunately the hot fix installation backs up the files before putting on the new fix so it's easy to find the various build numbers and install what you want.
I happened to notice that some of the bakers would say "it's working fine on our machine running build 246" so that is what I decided to use. The other thing I did was remove all 3rd party mods. They seem to be brilliant additions to the program but I gave them up to ensure that there was no possibility of them causing trouble.
Try rolling back to build 246.

    Regards, John

    Thanks John...

I went back to 246 as well... but that was weeks ago and they still haven't dealt with the issue...? That bothers me... as I've seen them do quick emergency fixes when others report such an issue....

Personally, I'm still much happier in 8.5.3 and I do all my commercial work there... I merely tinker in X1 with some of my own projects for altho it works and doesn't crash any more than 8.5.3, it's far slower for me to get my work done in... and no, it's not duie to learning X1 as I've been using x1 daily since it was released.... It's just slower to get my work done in my way...

if they don't deal with these issues and convince me of it, I will not likely jump and order X2 I will more likely be searching the world for a better solution. I am very unhappy with X1 outside of one or two minor issues it corrected from 8.5.3... I will be even more unhappy than I am now...

From the tone of the Bakers responses I'm guessing that they are NOT going to change it's behavior and that saddens me as I've been using Cakewalk products since Cakewalk For Windows.... I would hate to be forced out of the family, but........................

    Keni,

maybe this is a long shot, but have you applied all SSL updates for your Mixtreme ?  I'm using SSL too, but the Alphalink with MADI Xtreme 128 card and there have been a number of upgrades over the past few months.  Maybe this  will help you ... hope so.

I have as yet not tried QF255 and am still on 246.  Maybe I should stay there.  Good Luck.

Thanks for the thought... but I'm using the most recent driver they have.... You might find that you CAN'T apply 255... Unless you're using the ASIO driver... That might work, but the wdm/ks does not.... and I have issues with ASIO....

Okay, thanks for clarifying.  Yes, I am using SSL's ASIO driver.

There's The rub (for me)... I need to be able to adjust my latency on the fly too often to deal with the ASIO system... Without that slider I'd be out of luck (or at least slowed down) dealing with the constant change...

I know that ASIO appears to be the more popular driver these days, but I find the wdm/ks driver much more elegant and easier to work with... Latency? On my Mixtreme I see no noticable difference...

How is the Alphalink? I'm an old Soundscape user. I worked for them back in the day.... and I still have an old SSHDR1Plus sitting in a rack here... as well as a Mixpander9 card! I've been dreaming of getting the da converters that ssl/soundscape have available to turn the Mixpander9 into a 64 track capable interface (24 at a time per breakout box)... But I've been too broke to spend the $1800... <sigh>

    Hi Keni,

I recently switched from X1 to a rock solid DAW. Haven't had a single hiccup with it.

    Here's a link.

Thanks Bub... I switched to the same software as soon as I got X1.... I continue to use it without probelms (mostly). A very dependable system and efficient to use.

    ...But I miss the shift-L shortcut from X1! ;-)

Without getting into too much detail ...
The Alphalink is great (for me).  It solved a LOT of issues I'd been having with FW and USB stuff not working consistently, and so I decided to move all the AD processing out of the box (well, almost all), plus I wanted to move the computing equipment out of  the studio, and the Alphalink with its optical cable connections was a superb solution.  For the video I also have an optical cable solution, using a Matrox RGU (Remote Graphics Unit - ExtIO).  So two cards in PC with two optical cables out into the studio.  Silence is golden.

On changing latency on the fly : I do this also with ASIO.  SSL have a small window where you can immediately input the number of samples latency, then hit OK.  Pretty instant.
