No IK at Sweetwater NAMM??
Just got a NAMM promo email thingy from Sweetwater linking to all the new stuff at NAMM. Nary a mention of IKMultimedia or ST3. Nada. Zilch. Imagine that.

GUI - looks a lot cleaner and easier on the eyes and included effects was nice idea. Big question will be the upgrade prices? Also need to hear more of the content.

The GUI looks nice to me but I have to say, I'm a little underwhelmed by the videos. Still, looking forward to it.

"Native 64-bit Compatibility!" What they don't say is there is no 32-bit compatibility. It's kind of like my local classic rock radio station that brags "40 minutes of nonstop rock!". What they should say is "20 minutes of nonstop commercials!". But I guess as long as there's an iOS version, all bases have been covered.

Looks nice. That's real clever of them to make it 64 bit only limiting their potential customers. Please somebody wake me when I can pick it up for under $100 like I did ST 2.5

I hereby predict that when it's released that all previous owners of ST2 will get a "special introductory" offer (lasting, let's say, a month) of $99 semolians. Which, of course, considering the past history is too much. But we'll jump on it anyway. Or will we? PS: Looks OK...but hardly groundbreaking.

It's IK. Even if it's a "meh" when looking at it now at full price, it will eventually be part of a "buy 1 get 2 free sale" or something like that and will end up being a good buy an we'll all buy it eventually. A "meh" just means it's a buyer's market and we can wait for a sale.
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

If I can use some of my $68 in Jam Points that would mean I could get it for $50 which is about what I would pay for it.

The IK reps at NAMM are now saying it Should be available in March or April of 2014. You know what that means... At this point the upgrade price don't even matter, there is no product to upgrade to. I guess this gives them time for some more Group Buys on ST2.

The two youtube videos do reveal that it has a new GUI which looks readable this time. I do like the new mixer page having faders and plugins. As I said on a different thread, I will probably wait, but the price will be key. I have learned from my past experience with IK not to expect to be able to use my jampoints on "sale" products. Thanks for posting the youtube links.

As long as we're making baseless predictions, I'll predict $299 with an introductory price of $259. Maybe we should start a betting pool.

Just watched another youtube video, this one from Guitar Center, where the same guy is interviewed at NAMM. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm4hf-Ki0V4 Near the end, he says that ST3 will be available in 1st quarter, but then said either March or April. So we have a new countdown.

IK has also announced that they will reduce the development cycle on SampleTank by 6 months...which means the next version will be out in about 10.5 years...

I predict 2nd quarter release (May), upgrade price $149, MAP $249 and on sale within 18 months after a disappointing launch. I like the pool idea. Could we set up something using pay pal?

Well you've got 2 groups here... The ones who invested THOUSANDS of dollars, and have waited 11 years (ha ha..) (who basically are getting the large end of the shaft)
and
The ones who just jumped on board because they got all the stuff that WE paid THOUSANDS for for $50 (in the MASS sell off to offset the LOSS of Customers that THEY THEMSELVES (IK) created)....and will NOW gladly buy the upgrade and hail it as
THE GREATEST SAMPLER IN THE HISTORY OF SAMPLING...
and then THEY can wait 11 years for the next version... Mark my words...there will be marketing hype unparalleled upon release (sound familiar?) "Fool me once, SHAME ON YOU....Fool me twice...you don't get fooled again" - G.W. Bush (former IK employee)

That's the reason I won't buy Sampletank 3. When I got fed up with Play and went looking for stuff, Miroslav got recommended to me for orchestra. Hmm ok, well that's not very expensive, let's see what the software costs. Also not very expensive. Sounds good, I'll buy it... Wait, where's the 64-bit version? I won't use 32-bit plugins, because I find it annoying to deal with bridge software. Silly maybe, but then I'm a hobbyist so it isn't like I have to just deal with it to make a client happy or anything. Now there's a 64-bit version coming, but my concern is that his shows a massive lack of support. I mean that is a serious long time without going 64-bit. That doesn't bode well to me for future updates. So, in a few years, maybe we'll see. However at this point, I'm getting pretty fat n' happy with my Kontakt collection. :D

That's pretty much how I feel about SONAR. When I factor in how much I've spent in upgrades since SONAR 3, I definitely have not come out on top (compared to someone who buys SONAR for the first time today). That is of course, financially speaking only. In every other sense I've had a quality recording program to use for the last 10 years or so.
