No More Dim Pro DXi?

I just looked at the release notes for the Dimension Pro 1.5 update and it looks like there is no longer a DXi version! Same for Rapture. Looks like DXi really on is on the way out.

This has put me in two minds about updating as the 64 bit DXi version of Dim Pro works well for me.

There is the saying if it ain't broke don't fix it...  But I think that the new 64bit optimizations are worth the update.

When releasing virtual instruments and effects developers have some many configurations to worry about for code maintenance, bug testing, regression testing, ect.  By reducing configurations development will be faster.

I think Microsoft is the only OS on which DirectX stuff works. It's probably not cost-effective to develop for just that, as Chad suggests.

Is there no 64-bit path for VSTs? I'd assume there is, but since Steinberg just came out with version 3 of the spec, it might take a while before we see them.

There are lots of 64 bit VSTs.Yes DXi only working on Microsoft and not many DAWS support it so its probably dead in the water.

It's probably only snake oil but I always thought DXi was better than VST and always use DXi if there is a choice.

I am wondering if you run this upgrade if it will just upgrade the VST and leave the DXi alone. Or will it uninstall the DXi version.

Glyn:  I just installed the DimPro 1.5 64 upgrade.  You were concerned about  the possible elimination of the DXi plugin after installation of the 1.5 update.  I just installed the Dimpro 1.5 x64 vst update and checked.  My results were that the update did not remove the dxi version.  In fact, I inserted both the new Dimpro x64 vst and the Dxi version in a test and both worked.  However, I understand that there will be no support for the DXi version anymore.

Good luck.  i really hope this upgrade will be stable in the Win7 64bit OS.

Thanks, thats useful information. I am traveling for the next couple of weeks so I can't upgrade straight away. In the mean time l will keep an eye on the forums and see what the consensus is.

Previously only the DXi of Dimension Pro was 64bit.  The VST was still using the 2.3 VST SDK (was only 32bit).  That's why the DXi would have run better on your system.  The new VST is now 2.4 and 64bit.  Hope this helps.

    Hi Everyone,

Yes - we have dropped support for DXi with Dimension 1.5.

The new update will not remove your existing DXi version of 1.2 so you may continue using it and existing projects that use the DXi version should not flip out.

    Best Regards,
