No More Templates!!
Hi All! Due to very little "free" space on my C: drive, I thought that I'd use "disc cleanup" and compress my files on that drive............. Ooops! I did gain about 30% more space on my C: drive, but when I went to Sonar 6PE to open a new project I realized that all my templates were gone!! I had only 1 template available to me (normal)! What happened?? Along with the pre-set templates, I had created my own templates in this folder. How can I get my templates back?? Any help would be appreciated. Harpo

If you have SONAR 6.2 or higher your templates have been moved to your USER name in the Documents and Settings Folder Tree. EDIT: I take that back. What I told you is true but it would be easier to find by going to you MY DOCUMENTS folder and there is a Cakewalk folder there. Should be in the folder SONAR SAMPLE CONTENT.

I thought that I'd use "disc cleanup" and compress my files on that drive Just another one of those Windows features that you should really stay away from..DAW users MS didn't build their OS for musicians... compression is a no no when you need performance

and compresses files that haven't been active in a while I know more or less about that..because I don't use it I never thought what it actually does so - What kind of a compression? (I first thought it could that whole drive compression..above..so it's not) Zip files? in place? or..where does Windows put the compressed files for you? I'm just lazy..I could Google for that but I want to feel once how it feels like comin' here and asking questions..also my post count needs a boost so why not oh..editing once again for a small typo...nothing changes 'round here!

I don't know what it does. It makes the file name turn blue. Kind of like what your first girl friend used to do to you. That kind of compression. A little misery but you're soon over it. The files take a smidge longer to open (so I've been told). But I've never noticed that big a difference. Disk cleanup only futzes with files you haven't used for a while. I can see files that still have thier names in black in the same folder as those in blue.

Thanks for the replies, Guy's. I still, however, lack the information of exactly how to reinstall my Templates to the original folder in order to view them when I need to open a "New" project! If someone could give me a "step by step" on how to do this exactly, it would make me a very happy Sonar user!! Thanks for the suggestions on staying away from such "Windows Tools" in the future. I had no idea these could inadvertantly effect Sonar in such a way. Harpo

First of all, have you found the templates? If not, do a search through your hard drives for files ending in *.cwt These are cakewalk template files. Then you need to make sure they are where Sonar expects them. If you go to options/global options/folders tab in Sonar you'll see something that says "Templates: and has a directory next to it. If you're templates are not in the folder, put them there. ORIGINAL: Harpo Thanks for the replies, Guy's. Thanks Mick! Sometimes an exact "blow by blow" description of what needs to be done is extremely helpful for those of us who have yet to experience certain areas of the "Joys of being a Sonar user"! It worked like a charm! Peace Harpo
