No Playback.....
MC4 has stopped working. No playback or recording in either new or existing project. Now matter where I put the NowTime cursor, nothing happens when I hit the play button or the space bar. No sound but more importantly MC doesn't advance through the project. It just sits there. I checked Options|Audio|Driver all looks fine. Also reran the Wave profiler then closed and reopened MC. Same results. I also clicked the Run/Stop audio engine button on the transport bar and still no results. Is that button supposed to be a colour other than grey is the audio engine is running ? Thanks in advance Pete

do you have anything else running which might have control of the soundcard? I've had this happend before and had to close a program that had control of the soundcard and wouldn't let sonar use it.

I considered that too but no other audio programs are open. I even rebooted my PC and tried MC again. Still not 'rolling' playback. I can play audio files in Win Media Player and ACID 4.0. Hmmmm.....

well - I've had this problem you're describing before and it was due to something getting corrupted in the project. I had to manually move the wave files into a new project and re-do all of my settings before I could get it to play again. BIG pain in the A.....................nkle.

Long shot coming here Pete.... Before I got my TonePort and had to rely on my factory sound card, I had to drag the latency slider over to fast to record and then to ease everything up, I had to slide it back to safe to mix and start piling on the effects! Sometimes, if I'd forgotten to move the slider back, I'd end up with exactly the same symptoms you're getting - just try sliding it back towards safe and see if that frees up MC4. Steve

no, that's fine. you're in ASIO driver mode - you can't change the latency using the slider when in ASIO driver mode.

your driver mode is WDM and your latency slider is greyed out? that isn't good. try changing to ASIO mode and see what happens. if it doesn't let you change it then you'll need to follow these directions: http://z8.invisionfree.com/GAPers/index.php?showtopic=82 your soundcard might not work in ASIO mode, so if it does let you change it then you might need to change it back to WDM.

Yes, I was able to change driver modes. I don't have the ASIO driver but it let me change to that. Saved / restarted etc. I then switched to MME mode then saved / restarted etc. Still no playback.

Company computer? Maybe they placed a block on unauthorized programs? Can you do a system restore on it? Click the MC icon and select 'Run as administrator'? Try the stock sound card (if there is one)? Oh, the Audigy is on your home computer.

try downloading and installing ASIO4ALL (google it) then change to ASIO driver mode then restart MC see if that helps.

No program blockers Greg. Installed ASIO and selected my onboard sound card (the one in the box) and still same result. It seems as if the audio engine won't run at all. Should the audio engine button be a colour other than grey in the transport bar? Also, I can't preview files in the loop explorer. I seem to remember installing an audio utility to transpose wav files a while back (I've since uninstalled it) and now MC doesn't work. don't know if there's a connection or not.

I assume you mean you installed ASIO4ALL - ASIO itself is not something you can install - it's a driver "mode." also - the onboard soundcard won't necessarily work in ASIO mode at all- even with ASIO4ALL. sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. what I was suggesting you do is download and install ASIO4ALL and select the ASIO4ALL Soundblaster inputs and outputs, not the onboard soundcard.

Thanks for the clarification Beagle. I'm probably just going to uninstall and reinstall MC4. This problem is with MC on my PC at work and its has hardware other than what is listed in my profile so I'm sure I'm confusing everyone. Still curious about the audio engine button.

the audio engine button should be on when you are ABLE to use MC for playback and recording - but it will be off if there's a problem with the drivers. that's why I hadn't addressed that - it indicates a problem with your drivers if it's off.

uninstall the program, reeboot pc. then reinstall MC again. All of your songs will still be right where they were. Only the program itself will go away. I have had this problem before too. I think the MC program has lost its inner-connect with your sound card. Those are the syptoms of " No Sound Card" A fresh install is a good place to start.

My "Test " installation of MC4 is still not playing audio clips. I have tried switching to ASIO mode, and even uninstall / reinstall with no result. Back to WDM driver mode and still audio engine light not on and not playback for clips. Thougts ????

None, except to go back and check every setting: Record and playback timing masters, drivers, buffers, driver mode. Make sure the box to "Share Drivers With Other Programs" is checked. Or maybe you need to uncheck that box? Make sure the panic button is unclicked, although I'm not sure what that does. Has the work computer's hard drive been defragged lately? Is the hard drive getting full? Do you have the Google Toolbar For Windows installed? If it's in your Add/Remove Programs list, maybe you can remove it. That worked for me, once.

Its Working !!!!!! WhooooHoooo !!!!! That was it Greg: Options | Audio | General Tab | Playback Timing Master. This drop list was set to 'None' instead of to my sound card. I don't know how that happened. I s-w-e-a-r I didn't touch that setting. Oh well. Live and learn. Thanks for all the help everybody !!!!
