Above is a view of my Dev Mgr for audio. Is there anything I can remove, or is there any conflict that you know of?

no, you can't remove anything because the alesis uses the audio codecs from windows, so all of that stuff is needed........ HOWEVER...webcams have been known to cause conflicts with audio interfaces - you could try removing the drivers for the webcam. but I don't guarentee it to work.

Thanks for the tip, Beagle. A lot of this is pointing towards the importance of having a dedicated computer for the recording. Because I still suspect, as I did initially, that my problems are the drivers. But it's "chicken & egg" for me, because I don't want to buy another computer without feeling like I'm going to get through all this. I haven't even progressed to the challenges of MIDI and Latency.

Can you check my settings for the ASIO4All controls?

I can't say why you can't hear anything, it's been a long time since I tried ASIO4All. But check all your settings in the 'Options>Audio' pages, make sure that the MM 8's outputs are up, and the Windows mixer outputs are up, the amps are on, etc. What do your Options>Audio settings read? At least you're getting a pretty good recording level! I also notice that your CPU meter at the bottom reads 7% and MC isn't even playing. That probably has nothing to do with your lack of volume, but when using MC, especially when recording, you should be running as lean as possible. Turn off everything that's not needed for recording. Get off the internet, disable the modem and turn off the virus scanner, pop-up blocker and firewall. No screen saver or wall paper. Turn off the Microsoft system sounds. While you're getting the set-up sorted it's no problem, but you don't want any of that stuff to interrupt your "perfect take" and cause an audio dropout.

Another thing, probably also unrelated. I see that you have MC set to sample at 44.1kHz @ 16-bits, and the ASIO settings have the 'Always Resample 44.1kHz <-> 48kHz' box checked. The sampling rates of each have to match, so uncheck that box or reset MC to 48kHz.

I found out that the controls for ASIO4All were not all expanded. Below is a shot with them expanded, which provides a clue to the No Output problem: I can't just click on the red 'X' to get rid of it. The popup notes say the MS GS Wavetable Synth is enabled, but I've never used this, that I know of. Is it part of MC5? It's not in my Device Mgr list (2 posts above), or in my driver dropdown lists in MC5. Here is a view of all I have in MC5 for ASIO drivers: There's also a unchecked box for forcing WDM to 16 bits. I thought that as long as I'm using ASIO, WDM is irrelevant. Is there a connection?

Oh, and Gregy, I did uncheck the 'Always Resample 44.1kHz <-> 48kHz' box', but the above picture stays the same. Thanks.

ASIO4ALL is a WDM wrapper - that's why it's important to ASIO4ALL. it uses your soundcard's WDM drivers and wraps them into ASIO mode in MC. MS GS Wavetable is a microsoft software synthesizer. don't worry about it. your problem there is where it says "ASIO4ALL v2 NOT CONNECTED" after installing ASIO4ALL, did you reboot the computer? if so, did you have the alesis plugged in and powered on BEFORE the comptuer booted?

Hi Beagle, I can't believe it. I thought I had rebooted, but apparently not. I like the way ASIO4All works so far, and I've read good reviews (if there's such a thing as a good review about a Win driver!) I'm on to studying MIDI and beats now. Hey Forum, this guy has been great to me. Thanks for all your help and understanding, Beagle!

Spoke too soon. This is what I was afraid of! These driver conflicts continue to be intermittent (see first post). I came back to the computer after a couple of hours, and no output again. I rebooted. No output, above red 'X' is back. So I went into Task Mgr and killed all the processes I know of that are unrelated. Turned off antivirus. Same. Is there any kind of table that shows audio driver conflicts?

mcmoy Above is a view of my Dev Mgr for audio. Is there anything I can remove, or is there any conflict that you know of? Hi mcmoy, I belive, as per your above image, that you need the realtek high definition audio (soundcard) ENABLED, not dis-abled, as shown. So try Enable the realtek souncard.

Nokey - no, he's trying to get his Alesis USB to work, not the realtek - so he's not concerned with the realtek being disabled at this time. mcmoy, I fear the problem is the Alesis. windows probably looses the alesis for some reason when idle. you could try a different USB port. you don't have it plugged into a usb hub do you? if so, don't - plug it into a port on the BACK of the computer - those are usually directly connected to the motherboard where ones on the front are a header connection with a cable and thus the ones on the back tend to have more power available and are more stable.

Isn't that Alesis just a mixer that sends its inputs into the pc by usb, so that a soundcard still has to do the sound of the VSTS and other things? I don't have one of those, but I checked briefly what it does.

No, it has an integrated sound card, and handles the AD/DA conversions. That's why the USB connection works. Mcmoy, check that you don't have power management set to turn of power to USB after a certain idle time. It should be set to "Never".

If it has a soundcard, then I would try without the ASIO-4-ALL, maybe it's just USB complaint. Also, some old USB-devices, like older usb printers, need to be turned on, while connected, BEFORE turning the computer ON, so as to be recognized.
