No Rewire!
I have both Reason and FL Studio installed on my computer. Yet, when I go to insert a Rewire device, the option is grayed out. Any ideas why this is? I don't remember having this issue with previous versions of Sonar.

Do you use the 64-bit version? Rewire does not work with the 64-bit version of SONAR.

In fact Rewire does not work in 64 bit at all as the rewire.dll has not been updated to run in a native 64 bit host. Send a petition to the developewrs of Reason.

Hi, Mudgel, I was under the impression that Rewire works with a 32-bit DAW rewire host application installed on a Windows 64-bit platform, from posts like these: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-computers/575487-rewire-32bit-apps-under-win7-64bit.html Is this not true?? Did not try it myself, because I'm still working with XP 32bit. I'd like to know for sure, because I'm planning to upgrade my hardware and OS.

Zonno, There have been plenty of people on the forum that are using the 32 bit version of Sonar with Rewire running successfully on 64 bit systems here. Mudgel has been found guilty of spreading misinformation and should be shot...

Mudgel is dead-on-balls accurate: Rewire will not work in a 64-bit HOST. The host in this case being Sonar, not the PC it is installed on. You may use rewire in a 32-bit install of Sonar on a 64-bit PC. You may not use Rewire in a 64-bit install of Sonar. ...but why have a 64-bit system and run the 32-bit version of Sonar. You aren't using the system to its full potential. I went ahead and installed Sonar X1 as both 32-bit and 64-bit on my system, just so I can occasionally still run a hosted Reason. It's a nice idea on paper. In practice, I just gave up on Reason until they get around to providing a 64-bit rewire driver.

reactor222 . In practice, I just gave up on Reason until they get around to providing a 64-bit rewire driver. I 2nd that! It's really annoying too. I have only the 64-bit Sonar installed this time and I refuse to revert back to 32-bit just for the reason stuff. I'm drooling over Reason 5 but I won't upgrade until the ReWire is 64- bit. The problem is that this also affect my use of Live and Sibelius. Too bad... I kind of feel that I am the looser here

Kroneborge Of course they are loosing out on your money. Mighty good point but I don't think it makes a huge difference for Propellerhead I just want to be able to work comfortably with the tools I have at my disposal. Importing and exporting audio from everywhere is just boring. I miss the rewire

benjaminfrog I've got ReWire working fine in my 64 bit version of SONAR using this: http://www.energy-xt.com/index.php?id=0115 +1 Don't have Reason, but use Project 5 and Kinetic 2 via rewire VST in SONAR X1 x64 all the time. Works great. I know some have mentioned that they are vehemently opposed to spending on a 3rd party solution and that the Props should fix rewire. I agree they should, but in the meantime - this works great, and is very, very low cost. Solutions before principles I say.

you would think that with so many people going to 64bit machines and software they would accommodate for that. But, it's not a show stopper I guess. I have a perfectly good 32bit system that I upgraded from that I plan on putting 32bit 7 on. I'll have to buy a new firewire card for the that pc bit that's about it. A friend of mine has Reason and Record. He seems to like it quite a bit. Although, I'm not familiar with Record it would appear that they work together regardless of the rewire constraints but I could be wrong. I couldn't say exactly if the advantages of 64bit are worth all the headaches. If fact, I really didn't have any issues with my 32bit system other than the fact that XP is a horrible operating system. I think I'll slap win 7 on it with some new cards and see how that goes. At least I'll have the freedom to use either and have a back up PC just in case one poops the bed.

I downloaded the trial of Rewire-VST last week. Haven't had a chance to check it out yet. Glad to hear it is working well for a few of you. Maybe this is the answer I've been looking for. I miss Reason. I can't imagine why Propellerheads would let Rewire technology die in 32bit. There must be some difficulty in trans-coding to 64bit that is beyond my comprehension, and causing delays.

Reason and Record totally mesh with each other so you end up with Record seamlessly containing all of the parts that go into Reason - with the added bonus of losing Reason's grotty interface. It also has the benefit of practically never crashing - I suppose the lack of VST support helps that. Grum.

reactor222 ...but why have a 64-bit system and run the 32-bit version of Sonar. You aren't using the system to its full potential. Actually that's not totally the case. I use 32bit Sonar in Win764 because I had too many problems bridging 32bit plugs. However, I use my sample heavey apps (Kontakt, Battery, EastWest SO) through jBridge and get full use of my 8gigs RAM in Sonar 32bit. Works quite well.
