No VS700C console support for Pro-Tools 9
Just a heads up for people that may be curious as to whether the VS700c console will work with Pro-Tools 9... the answer is 'No'. Pro-Tools 9 currently only supports control surfaces that adhere to the 'HUI' protocol. The HUI protocol is basically a control surface protocol for communicating directly with Pro-Tools. The VS-700C currently only supports Mackie emulation. Apparently real Mackie interfaces even have to be placed into HUI mode to work with Pro-Tools. So far Pro-Tools is the only DAW that I have encountered that doesn't work with the VS-700C. Amazingly there is a $15 iPad control surface app (AC-7 Core) that controls Pro-Tools wirelessly and provides essentially the same functionality that the VS-700C would. Ironically, I could never get that same app to work with SONAR even though it claims that its supported. With PT9 I was able to get it working the first time. FWIW, the VS-700R I/O box seems to work OK as an audio interface. However, the inputs/outputs are not-labeled in PT9. So be prepared to spend some time figuring out which port is which. I honestly don't expect Cakewalk/Roland to fix this problem. Nevertheless, I just wanted give anyone else a heads-up that may be considering trying out PT9. -e.B

Thanks for the heads up. Frankly speaking, the problem isn't ours to fix, its Avids. If they want PT9 to work with a wider range of hardware then they should add Mackie Control support. Same thing goes for the I/O labelling in PT9 which sounds like a problem in the software (VS-700R works fine with all other hots). SP

Seth Perlstein [Cakewalk ] Thanks for the heads up. Frankly speaking, the problem isn't ours to fix, its Avids. Same thing goes for the I/O labelling in PT9 which sounds like a problem in the software (VS-700R works fine with all other hots). SP Seth, I guess technically you're right. However, I only said that because even Mackie decided to go ahead and support HUI rather than wait for Digidesign to support Mackie's protocol. I know that there's no reason to expect Roland's hardware to work with a competitor's product especially considering that PT9 is so new to the market. I didn't really get PT9 to replace X1. I just needed to get some experience with the software plus I was able to grab it at a great price. -e.B

This may also be because Pro Tools is the Devil !!!! We are lucky Cake and Roland are giving it a wide Berth On a plus side if they are not working on making the VS-700c work with Pro tools AKA THE DEVIL ! Then they can spend more time on Sonar :D Its a Win Win Situation !

hi guys Are there any news on this. I also would like to use my VS700C with pro tools 10HD I dont need all the routing but tha main workflow like faders, transport solo mute etc. This will make my setup more flexible (and a lot of others) Seth says:the problem isn't ours to fix, its Avids, thats ok (or not) This would be an advantage for Cake as well their hardware will be evan more flexible = bigger sale / money in the bank / in these hush days cash is king!!! :-)) E.BLUE:I know that there's no reason to expect Roland's hardware to work with a competitor's product. Now its PRO TOOLS10 and same answer: This would be an advantage for Cake as well their hardware will be evan more flexible = bigger sale / money in the bank / cash is king!!! :-)) Muzie: The SI-24 & The VS2480 remote controll protocol support HUI. There must be someone out there who can make this protocol

This will never happen Pro Tools dropped all HUI Support in version 10 - 11 You could download Bomes midi Translator and spend some time and make a map that will work with Pro Tools though http://www.bome.com/products/miditranslator
