No audio playback on MC4

Greetings! Last weekend I purchased MC4. It is the first product of its kind I have ever owned, or even worked with. I'm very eager to start learning and using the program, but that it is not going to happen until I can get the audio playback to work. I am getting no sound whatsoever.

I have an HP Pavilion laptop with Windows Vista and a Conexant High Definition SmartAudio HD2 soundcard. At this juncture, I'm not concerned about the latency issues I've seen discussed on this forum, with respect to built-in soundcards, because I don't intend to do any analog recording. My humble intention is to work primarily with my keyboard via MIDI, and to augment that with the loops available on the program.

Unfortunately, I haven't heard any of these yet. My soundcard works just fine for every other application. Its driver is totally updated. I have gone through all the troubleshooting included with the program, and tried to follow the online tech support to the letter. Still, nothing. As soon as I open the program, a window appears indicating that the "current audio format does not the support the following drivers" or something like that, but then no drivers are listed. It's got to be something very simple. I should at least be able to get audio playback with my setup. What's going on?

Thank you!

The problem is most likely that unless you insert a softsynth you will not hear any midi since MC4 defaults to WDM drivers and those do not see Microsoftsynth Gs properly. Go in and change the driver mode to MME and the midi output to microsoft synth GS

Just wanted to let you know that it can get a little slow on the forum over the weekends, so it might be tomorrow before you get an answer from some one who can help. I do not know the answer to your question, but I have seen that error message in posts from other people, so, I might suggest doing a search on this forum for "current audio format does not the support the following drivers", the search box is at the bottom of the screen. And, I am sure help will be coming.

Do you want to hear the keybards sounds or use an internal midi synth.

Right. What Robomusic asks is whether you want MC to play your keyboard, or one of the software synthesizers which are included with MC.
Since you don't want to deal with latency from your onboard sound card, you would have to use the keyboard's synth. This could be limiting if you want to use sounds other than the ones your keyboard makes.
But really, the latency issue only relates to using soft synths in real time. You can record your keyboard while listening only to the keyboard without the delay that comes with a slow sound card. Once you have that MIDI data recorded in MC, you can then use all the soft synths you want and they should be in sync with each other on playback. Still, there could be glitches when running lots of audio (soft synths) through the sound card.
Go to 'Options>MIDI Devices' and select whatever your MIDI keyboard is plugged into for in and out. Then when you set up a track to record, choose MIDI Omni for input and the MIDI out you just selected. Read up on channels, too. Each MIDI track should be on a seperate channel or they'll all sound like piano regardless of the patch you choose.

Oh my God! Robomusic, you were absolutely right! Just changing the driver mode fixed everything! Thank you so much! And thank you gamblerschoice and 57Gregy as well for your replies. Man, this forum is incredible.

Next you want to change back to WDM, and learn to use softsynths it will sound way better.
