Having unmatched RAM sticks can also lead to problems from what I have read.  Maybe some comp guru's can chime in on this.

So you're trying to be a guinea pig/pioneer with 64 bit?  I wasn't sure if that's the case from your post.  But if so - I'm amazed at how many posts on the Forum are about people having problems with 64 bits, all the incompatible plug-ins, bit bridges not doing what they should etc---I don't understand the attraction of venturing into something that just isn't all that happening yet.  Why not wait until the smoke clears?

I think many people are running 64-bit with no problem, me being one of them. I can now use well over the 4GB limit of RAM, Sonar is much smoother and I have no issues. Some people will innevitably install Win7 64-bit and then dump Sonar 64-bit on top of it and expect everything to work - it won't. You need to research all the latest drivers for your gear to make sure they are available. If you look at most of the 64-bit related issues on here you will find that the vast majority are resolved by installing a driver.

This is probably it!
Which of the cakewalk interfaces is the best for high load intense work?

FA-66 - UA-101 or UA-25EX?

Is the firewire on faster than the usb?

Also the
RME Fireface,
M-Audio ProFire 2626 and FF800 seem to be highly recommended on this forum.
I only need 8 audio out and one audio in.

I use the SPS-660 and have done for about 2 years now with no problems. I don't know if the USB 2.0 is faster, I wouldn't think so. Just be aware that it only has 2 instrument inputs which is OK for a singer/songwriter but if you want to record a band then you will probably need more inputs.

I think at this point in time it has a lot to do with ALL of your hardware and software, that you are tring to use.  Even Windows 7 is still new.  A good percentage of my crashes were caused by Bitbridge. My interface dosen't have the greatest drivers in the world, and some of my favorite plugins are still 32 bit.  Someday it will catch up and everything will work fine but until then I'll stick with 32 bit.

Got through the whole day scoring and didn't have a hang when trying to save!
Not sure if it was luck but i did make a couple changes.
1. Connected my Maudio USB midi keyboard dierctly to the computer instead of through an external usb interface
2. Took out some of the security features in my firewall - which could be the reason Sonar froze when trying to communicate with my Slave computers vie Vienna Ensemble Pro
3. Prayed

Of course now that I wrote that it will crash again! haha
Worst case I'm going to try and get matching brand on my ram (I'm using the same speed ram just 2 different brands)
After that i'm trying an audio interface with 64bit Win 7 drivers (My emu does not have em yet)
But overall a good day! I have 3 instances of play fully loaded as well as an additional 12 VSTs to external computers and over 20 audio tracks. All running smooth so far!

Pluging your keyboard straight into the computers (preferably back) usb port is probably the single best thing you did at the point you're at.  J

Slowly the truth comes out. You should turn your firewall off if the other computers aren't networked properly.

passenger57, could you please correct the spelling in the subject line for this thread?

It reads "read to give up". This makes it sound like the topic is so depressing that merely reading it will make you give up.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
