No midi recognition

I have upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 64 bit  and have installed the latest 64 bit drivers and 1.5 firmware, yet now when I connect my old Yamaha electric piano or QY700 sequencer via the midi in/out ports on the VS100 (to control and play soft synths in Sonar VS),I'm getting no midi response!Sonar is simply not recognizing it.
I have assigned all the right ports, channels etc.In fact I'm doing exactly the same as I did when I was using XP(had no issues).
In the windows toolbar there's a little piano icon that even states that there is midi in/out activity, yet, as I say,in Sonar it is completely dead(the midi icon is not illuminated and flashing)
Is there a setting in Windows 7 I'm missing?I can't actually see how this can be,as obviously I'm not using the internal soundcard,I'm using the VS100 as my soundcard.
Utterly baffled.Please help!
Cheers.

Are you 100% sure that you have enabled the VS Midi ports in the Sonar Settings, not just the VS Control ports? It sounds to me like you have already done a good job of troubleshooting, but sometimes a simple step can be overlooked.

Walk through this step by step, just to make sure you haven't missed something (don't assume anything is done - verify it).

1: Turn on VS-100 (Control) and "VS-100 (midi)" in Sonar's Midi Preferences. Make sure to check both IN and OUT.
2: For your MIDI Input Channel, select the VS-100 (Midi). If you leave this set to Omni, it should listen on all channels which is great for troubleshooting.
3: Make sure the cables are in the right order (ins/outs between keyboard and the VS ....). Sounds silly, but you never know

The only other suggestion I have is to make sure you try this in a new project, not just an existing one. I've seen Sonar get confused if something has changed within a project, but always seems to work fine in a new project.

Good luck! Hope you get this one solved.

    Hi Codamedia.Thanks for the response.
Well I've followed your protocol 3 times over and everything is set as it should be.My QY700 hardware sequencer is clearly showing that it's transmitting midi information out of it's assigned midi output port also.
I've tried this with a new project.I'm at a loss now as to what to do
Do i perhaps need to install a piece of software such as this:

    Thanks again.

I'm not sure about the 3rd party software. I would have to think that things should work without going that route. It does have a 30 day trial, so it shouldn't cost you anything if it doesn't work for you.

Have you called Cakewalk? Or submitted anything to tech support. Surely this must be something we are both overlooking! Cake is pretty good at helping people out. They don't monitor these forums that much, but it's easy to get one on one support.

    Good luck!

It is a baffling one.I've just sent tech support an email, so hopefully they'll be able to resolve it.Probably something blindingly obvious!
    Cheers for your help.

Well now,I'm officially a prize doofus! All along I had  "Midi (VS100)" assigned in the Controllers/Surfaces settings,as opposed to "Control (VS100) *goes a deep shade of crimson*
    Thanks again for your input.

Glad it is sorted out. I figured it had to be something simple.

See how easy it is to overlook something? I didn't have that in my little list as I just assumed it would be set that way.
