No more Gobbler feature in the new Sonar?
I haven't seen it in the features or ads...

The Gobbler control bar was dropped because Gobbler dropped its support for their API and did not have a substitute available.

Hi Noel, I could use some interpretation of this. Does this mean no Gobbler integration? This is not what your marketing blurb says. From Sweetwater - "Whether you need to simply burn a CD or you want to toss your latest tune up to SoundCloud, save it to the cloud via Gobbler, or export video direct to YouTube, Cakewalk SONAR Platinum lets you do it all - without ever leaving the program!" I truly hope Gobbler integration is still a feature.

It's not included right now for the reasons Noel mentioned. We'll ask Sweetwater to update that bullet. Our site doesn't mention it.

a new idea for a feature would be to have a path browser that would integrate a tool to allow us to tag a maintenance note onto every folder so we can track what has been done to maintain backups and what work is still needed. An auto update software probably would obsolete this, I do not know if that would be the case as I am not using it at this time but its an idea I think would be of benefit just like the ability to document notes on individual tracks is useful so I would think such a tool for use with a file maintenance record inside each folder to every project and probably inside every vst / vsti folder as well and it would be really cool to have a utility that would track dates on when a dll was installed in a folder as well as keep a running total of every file in the folder with notes for each program in the folder and a list of notes we might want to make so we can create notes on troubles and issues as well as how we solved said issues.

I am surprised this issue has not generated more attention with users. or a more detailed description by CW. Gobbler integration was touted, with good reason, as one of the key updates in X3. The fact that such integration is missing in the new Sonar is a significant step backward. Some follow up questions I hope CW can answer are: - Does this in any way affect our ability to use the Gobbler interface to backup Sonar projects?
- Is this considered a high priority issue to resolve quickly? The two responses from CW so far do not suggest that they consider this is a big deal, despite all the X3 marketing language saying how wonderful Gobbler integration is (was).
- Does this in any way affect our ability to use X3's integration with Gobbler? It seemed to work ok for me yesterday, so I think not. But if X3 does still have Gobbler integration, how can this new update's lack of integration be a result of a change on the Gobbler end? Something is not adding up.
Looking forward to CW's responses.

I rather like Gobbler. It's saved me a ton of money in CDs. I just send the final wave files with Gobbler. I don't really use Gobbler for backing up. I sometimes use it to send projects, but I usually use it to send groups of files. Once Gobbler 2.0 is set up, I'll bet Cakewalk adds a toolbar item. I did like being able to pause Gobbler within the app. I'm one who is actually happy to have Gobbler. I appreciate it and plan to continue being a paid subscriber.
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

Understood. But in the case of third party apps a new version of Sonar may not include them, but if you had them from a previous version you could still install them in any updated version. Until I recently I still sometimes used the Timeworks compressor and EQ that came packaged with Sonar 2XL! Plus, this is a core function that has been lost with no alternative. It's not as if Sonar now includes a "new and improved" version that took its place. Hope this gets resolved in a future update.

The collaboration feature was awesome. Say you work with someone from abroad, you record something in the project, the other party mixes your stuff, both parties have access to the newest version of the projects without ever meeting... How can this be done in the new Sonar?

^^^^ I was under the impression that Gobbler 2.0 was Mac only. Oh, and that 1.0 data had to be manually moved over to 2.0 because it's not backwards compatible. I'm not sure how SONAR could support that setup.

1. Gobbler dropped their support for Windows users at the end of 2014, a year after SONAR X3 was released. There is currently no Gobbler 2.0 Windows Client. There is only the legacy 1.0 Client. 2. Once Gobbler re-introduces a Windows 2.0 Client, we'll re-introduce a control bar module to sync with the their client. 3. SONAR X3 still works with the 1.0 client at this time. I would make sure all your files are backed up in a separate location just to be safe. 4. We had to make a decision to include it or not, at a time when Gobbler was still claiming users would lose all their data on December 1st. We didn't want to potentially ship a control bar module that had zero function or was broken.

The Kiosk ProjectJust had a look at Wavestack, it looks really good. What has your experience been like with it TerraSin? It's still in beta but so far it's good. It's a very easy interface and works as kind of a mix between gobbler and soundcloud because you can actually link people to the songs themselves to listen to them. while keeping files private for collaboration, a history of project files uploaded and places for reviewers to be added who can listen to the project as it's updated... someone like a label would likely use this feature to listen to the progress of the song. I've sent the owner a few messages of things I'd love to see added and he was very receptive to them. Things like being able to leave notes in the preview sections and such.

If I were you I would simply dump it permanently and not waste any more time on it. Their actions (or lack of speedy delivery) inspire no confidence for their user base. There are better alternatives.
