No sound from tracks except one in Sonar Producer 8.5

I have a project I saved multiple times (just in case) from different times of the development of a song, and it was working fine before this.

It has around 6 instances of Synthmaster 2.5 (latest version) and I am using Sonar Producer 8.5.

What happened is, it was working fine a few days ago. Then something happened with the PC and I had to reinstall XP Home on it again.
It was a clean install, formatted the drive, etc.  I installed all the million Windows updates, so that is not the problem.  It was up to date before this.

I ran the 2 patches from Cakewalk for Producer 8.5, so it is just like how I had it before all this happened. I also reinstalled all my drivers I had used before, so that is all the same too.

When I load up that song, 1 track will play sound, but the other 5 won't. Nothing is solo'ed.
It's weird because it is the same synth on every track. Not like it is a few different ones used , and 1 synth out of the 6 might have an issue or whatever.

I also tried uninstalling the synth, used CCleaner for the temp files and registry, and then reinstalled again but in a different folder (just to see what would happen) , but it does the same thing.

I already wrote the programmer of SM 2.5 about this over on KVR, and he was looking into it.
I am just thinking maybe it is an issue with Sonar, and not Synthmaster.

Has anyone had a similar issue like this one?

Thanks ahead of time
-Rob

    rm5700,

You might want to consider imaging your partitions from time to time, so that if disaster strikes, you can simply reinstall the backup image.

Have you tried substituting a different soft synth to try to determine whether the problem is with the Synthmaster or with Sonar setup? Once you know the answer to that question, you should be able to narrow the field of possibilities.

    Good luck.

    Thanks for the ideas.

I didn't try to load a different synth, but I did load up a new instance of Synthmaster into the song, and it worked fine. It's just those others in the original song that are acting weird.

I have imaged my drive before, and should really do that again before something else happens.

Reinstalling the OS is a pretty drastic measure. What was the problem that caused you to do that?

I would delete all instances of the softsynth in that project and then add them back in.

Unfortunately I have to use the same PC to go on the internet, (I know you're not supposed to with a music PC, but that's life) and somehow got a real bad infection. I used AVG and Malwarebytes to try and get rid of whatever it was, but it was a really tough one and couldn't get it off there. I work as PC Tech support person, and see this stuff all the time, so this was bad! If I went into the task manager, I could see the CPU going from 80-100%, with nothing even running.

Anyway, thanks for the advice I will check it out some more after this.
