No sound when recording, but sound during playback.

Hi, having problems with my UA-4FX soundcard. I'm using sonar LE and for some reason it has started not making any sound when I record, then when I play in back it plays the sound perfectly, any suggestions???

Thanks

GG

    Welcome to the forum.
What are you recording; MIDI or audio?
Are you not hearing previously-recorded tracks while you record another track, or are you not hearing the track you're recording?
Does the UA have a Monitor knob or software mixer monitor switch that lets you hear what you're recording and have you clicked/adjusted that?

Thanks Greg, Yeah I'm just recording Audio, guitar straight into the UA-4FX it's only just started happening. When recording, no sound can be heard, but when I play it back it, it plays the sound perfectly, very frustrated !!

Okay. You need to either enable monitoring in the UA (check the manual for how to do that), or click the Input Echo button in the track you're recording on.

OK, tried Input Echo, and yes I hear the sound when recording but unfortunately it has a delay sound similar to a guitar delay pedal.

    Thanks

Are you using ASIO drivers and have you tried lowering the latency?
Have you checked that SONAR is really using the UA and not the integrated chip (in Preferences- or Options- dialogue depending on which version you use)?
What are your PC specs - is your tool capable of running a DAW fluently?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Check under Options>Audio or click P on the computer keyboard for Preferences to see what Driver Mode you are in. The UA will have good ASIO drivers. Change the Driver Mode to ASIO.
Kalle is asking if your computer is fast enough with enough memory to run SONAR LE easily.

Hi, thanks so much for the responses, I've changed the driver mode to ASIO and still I have exactly the same problem, I should point out that, I've only just started having this problem prior to this it was running perfectly.

So now that you've changed it to ASIO, go to Options>Audio or click the P for Preferences on the computer keyboard and find the ASIO panel button. Click it and reduce the latency to lessen the delay once you turn on Input Echo.
Make sure the audio in all your tracks is routed to valid outputs.

There wil always be a delay, even if it's only 4 milliseconds.
Glad you can work with it now.

Thanks mate, not sure why but now my effects on the  UA-4FX have decided to stop working, when I switch to tube simulator it just makes a muffled sound, any suggestions?

I don't have a UA-4FX, so I can't tell you anything about it. But, did you go to the Cakewalk/Roland website and download and install the latest drivers and updates for it after you hooked it up?

HELP! It looks like I just missed you. By the time I'd registered here you'd logged off. I really need some help. I'll keep it as brief as I can...
I bought the Samson USBC01U which came with the Sonar LE. I installed it and ASIO4ALL. My friend who has a studio checked that everything was working and it was. I live in England but I'm now out here in LA to record some vocals over tracks I've had made in the UK. I'm just recording vocals, nothing else. Problem is I can't give the singer their voice through the headphones. I can record it but they can't hear it live. What am I doing wrong? I am so frustrated having spent a lot of time and money on this project and a simple setting is holding the whole thing up.

My email address is ivyfield@gmail.com and if there's any way you can help me I would really appreciate it. If it's convenient I can call you so maybe you could take me through my settings. I know everything works so it's not the hardware/software, it's just me.

    Thanks in advance Kalle,

    Steve Weaver.

Well, you missed Kalle by more than a month, but welcome to the forum anyway.
Did you click the Input Echo button?

There's a sticky about using those USB mics with SONAR LE at the top section of this forum.
Unfortunately those mics cause a lot of headscratching! A LOT!
