No sound while recording guitar?

I just set up Sonar 8.5 Producer and when I try to record guitar directly I can't hear anything until I play it back. I'm plugging into a MOTU 8pre and the guitar sounds fine in playback, but I can't monitor it while playing. Any help?

    Switch 'input echo' on.

When using vst as your guitar amp sim and using input echo, you need to make sure you have a very low latency setting. You will need a round trip latency of less than around 12ms.

So if your using ASIO driver modem, your ASIO buffer should be set at 64, 92,128 and maybe 256
If your using WDM driver mode, your latency should read below 5 msec (input latency)
