No sounds

Hi i have a litle prob when i use the media browser ...when i select a file the play turn light on  but no sound... i drop in my prject the file and now i can heard the loop  but i want to heard it before use  what can i do ?  this is my sound card or ?? creative X-Fi Elite Pro 24 bits THX  ..Thanks :)
