No waveform for recorded track - solved

Hi

I've recorded a guitar track using a clean sound, no FX, and on playback the recorded levels are good, very strong and clear.

However, there is no waveform showing in the track view, just the thin blue centre line.  This has happened before occasionally with certain other tracks.  Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?  I've looked it up in the Garrigus book and searched on here but found no answers.  Thanks.

Note: I just recorded another test track alongside and the waveform is showing.

I have not had this issue, but maybe someone else can chime in:

Wouldn't deleting the picture cache result in a redraw of the waveform for that track?

Thanks for the suggestion I'll try that (may have to wait a couple of days to try it but will post if it works).

Definitely sounds like picture cache is full.

I assume the X-line includes the "Recompute (or was it redraw/rebuild) waveform" command?

Picture cache -folder being full is the common cause, though.

    Success.

Thank you to repliers above (and apologies for delay coming back to thread) -  emptying the picture cache did the trick and the waveform has now appeared in the guitar track.

Is the picture cache simply what the name implies? By that, I mean emptying the picture cache (deleting files from that folder) doesn't get rid of any audio wave files, right - only the "pictures" of those files?
So if I delete files from the picture cache then bring up a project, will I lose images of the wave files from that project?

The picture cache is a directory where the images of the audio waveforms are stored. When then cache is cleared, the next time a project is opened, the waveforms for that project are redrawn and the cache is updated with those images.

You can increase the size of your picture cache so you need to empty it less often.  It's particularly useful if you do video work in Sonar.

Yup and few other performance related parameters, all in AUD.INI http://www.cakewalk.com/D...I_Files.6.html#1134652 Clearing the cache can be a drag for anyone working with long multi-track projects.
