hey i think i got one of them there high end  sound blaster cards as a matter of fact. it right beside the creative one  sam-iched between the deltas. I like to run my crappy  24bit 96khz studio delta into the high end 16 bit sound blaster so I won't have to dither..  heh ;)    It's almost like your really there when you use the awesome silver tipped RCA cables.

Phenom Quad core,  8gb ram, 3.5tb of Fine Music Storage Vault Under Armed Guard w/ UAV support (air-hog chopper), set of MA-15D, Delta 10-10 pci w/interface, m-box 3 pro, projectmix I/O, Metal Pop Filters, Two SKB cases Full of Suck Removal Buttons, Cedar Walls, Stripper Pole (helps with mastering & block priceing) more stuff i'm to lazy to add. ;)
P.S. good Memory foam is freakin awesome.

I've testing a machine (playback only) via optical with the onboard and it does a 44 buffer and runs very well. I wouldn't try to record with it, but you could do most anything mix wise with it.

Well, my exasperation was based on the fact that I have an "etc" card (which I got at WalMart about 8 years ago) and still I have crashes.  So I'm not sure we can trust the manual.

sure they do.. they are mainly aimed at gamers.. but creative also own EMU who do cards specifically for music making..

as much as people make such comments about the card.. back in the 90's it was a great card to use as a sampler vs a £1500 akai sampler and it was SPDIF.. you'd be surprised what filtering etc you could do with it.. and NO latency or near none. as the samplers were treated as midi.. not audio.

I always hated in the manuals how they assumed most people setting up Sonar would be using built in sound cards and not professional interfaces Like RME, Lynx cards or FireWiare interfaces..

I've got an old Sh!tBlaster 64 Gold card with as much additional card ram as I could buy at the time if anyone is interested? It allows me to use soundfonts bigger than 2TB. Yours for 5k! It's gonna go fast, so let me know soon if you want it. LMAO! I can't even keep a straight text and keep on with this. Hahahahahahahaha!

    You guys are a riot!!!

Not to play devil's advocate or anything, but the Creative cards have come a long, long way since the "good old days". One of the Gearslutz regulars, and big Sonar supporter BTW, Ethan Winer had a challenge, several in fact, to pick the high end converter (a Lynx I think?) from the mid level converter (Delta 66) from the ubiquitous Sound Blaster. It ruffled a lot of feathers and I'm not even sure if it's still on the site.

Don't get me wrong, I am in NO WAY claiming you should toss your RME for a Soundblaster, I'm just saying IN TERMS OF SOUND QUALITY they may not be as far apart as we have come to expect from past history.

Now, driver stability, low latency, stable software and so forth are an entirely different kettle of fish and *THAT* is where Creative has been way behind the curve in terms of professional level DAW work.

And that is probably at least part of the reason why you see people on the various boards, including this one, who have stability problems.

Just playing devil's advocate on a Friday afternoon.
Time for some great NY pizza!
