It's hard to pass up a twenty-dollar anything, but a 7-band fixed filter bank? I can't imagine what anyone would need this for. Maybe in hopes of sounding like the Funk Brothers, I guess. I'll wait until the Abbey Road plugins are $20, so then I can sound like the Beatles.

When you get it authorized and working, let me know what the filters are set to, so I can make it into a Sonitus EQ preset. Maybe I could then sell it! Don't laugh - Toontracks is getting away with it.

bitflipper When you get it authorized and working, let me know what the filters are set to, so I can make it into a Sonitus EQ preset. Maybe I could then sell it! Don't laugh - Toontracks is getting away with it. Does Nomad advertise it as having some kind of "mojo" (saturation, harmonics, etc) or is it really just a filter bank with x fixed bands? If that's the case, man, even $20 is a rip-off. Nevermind, here it is: - 7-band equalizer with, Gain and Proportional Q.
- 50 Hz, 130 Hz, 320 Hz, 800 Hz, 2 kHz, 5 kHz and 12.5 kHz.
- Boost / Cut up to 8dB per band
Like in the original hardware units, we have recreated the proportional Q which means that there is no adjustable Q bandwidth : small boost/cuts have a very broad Q and greater boost/cuts have a narrower one. So basically, it's like using any old EQ and just not taking full advantage of it.

My guess is that by limiting the engineers' options Motown was able to establish a high level of consistency in their products. That, plus using the same musicians, producers and mastering engineers for every recording, is probably why all Motown records sound alike. And it makes sense - why mess with a successful formula? The question is: are those standards still acceptable today? Listen to Seal's most excellent contemporary recording of some favorite soul standards. The songs are just as compelling, but the sound is definitely NOT Motown - it's crisp and clean and subtle.

Nomad Factory tech support is awful.....they suggested I delete ALL of my NF plugs (and I have quite a few) and appropriate folders.....I did that.....went through the stupid authorizations and license procedures and it STLL states that I've used up all 4 licenses for the Motown plug.....I told tech support that I'm never buying a NF product again and I will demand a refund from audiomidi....total BS that I don't have time for

If it's any consolation Gaff, ol pal. I've been down that road twice myownself. Used up all my installs just trying to get a download. Turns out both times it was my own fault:-) Different reasons both times. Nomad put a fresh set of installs (all 4). I bet they get you straightened out too.

Gaffpro Here's their response...sounds good in theory, but total BS when I actually followed their procedure...NF is a total joke CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE: Nomad Factory does not authorize any publication of the content of this e-mail without the permission of the author. [class=apple-style-span] Sounds like good old level 1 ctrl-c ctrl-v type of answer. :( Guess I was lucky. But now that I'm thinking of it - took me forever (well, like 4 or 5 days) to get my Magnetic serial info when I ordered form AudioMidi. Seems that NF just didn't follow up on my order and the good folks at AM had to hunt them down for my info. OTOH, just for the sake of it, I'd avoid posting their answers (as outlined in the e-mail above).

I've had nothing but good luck and good plugs from Nomad...Hope you get it straightened out. I'd go for the No- Brainer - but I'm tired of just having too much stuff to sift through, gonna pass on this ( not because I wouldn't use it ) I happen to like simpler eq plugs with gentle slopes on busses and mastering chains, but I'm waiting on Bootsie Baxter EQ to take of that for me - he's announced that it'll be out this week.

That don't-tell clause is pretty common. If you've ever gotten a support email from Cakewalk it contains the same warning. It's a stupid move, IMO, because it only encourages unsupported "x support sucks" types of commentary.

Well, I would have liked to try it out.....but like you said, what's really the point of having an additional graphic eq unless it's really special? I'm a big Motown fan but realize it was the talent and players that made those records special...bitflipper made a good point....better to up up a step in the "Seal" category......"Kiss From a Rose" to me is one of the finest recordings ever made Ironically, there's a studio neaby where I reside built by Tony Bongiovanni that has his own version of the hardware Motown eq's
