Non-Destructive Fade-In Causes Waveform to Disappear!

Greetings All,
I searched for this, but haven't seen the exact same phenom...

When attempting a non-destructive fade-in on a track, the waveform on that track appears as though the entire track is being reduced in volume.

The non-destructive fade-out does not do this - only the fade-in.

X1c,PE, running in x64 on Vista Ultimate.

This issue did not exist in 8.5PE x64...

Someone in another thread wrote:
"it causes non-destructve fades to mute clips under the fade curves"

I'm not experiencing the muting, just the unnerving reduction of an otherwise perfect waveform.
(The waveform gets reduced to a straight line as you drag the fade-in curve to the right, yet you can still hear the track as O.K.)

Do we now have to render/bounce clips in order for it to display properly after a non-destructive fade-in?

Yeesh...

Thanks for any ideas.

Take Care,
MG

There have been a couple reports of this. I haven't seen it. You might want to try turning off the waveform redraw option for fades. I don't recall exactly where the setting is.

Also, you can have SONAR recalculate the waveform picture without bouncing the audio. Right-click > Associated Audio Files or some such.

Thank you for steering me in the right direction there Brundlefly.

"try turning off the waveform redraw option for fades" goes like this:

    Preferences (P) > Customization \ Display
    Un-check "Display Clip Fade Attenuation".

    That took care of it.
'must've been a default in 8.5PE, because I never had to set it.

As for the "you can have SONAR recalculate the waveform picture without bouncing the audio. Right-click > Associated Audio Files"
All that's needed after right-clicking the clip/track is to click on the "Recompute Picture" button.

Hopefully all this will be of help to someone else as well.

    Happy Recording,
    MG

This is a new feature in X1, and it is on by default. Glad that took care of it, but you might take a minute to report it as a bug, and tell Cakewalk what your CPU and video are since there have been a number of hardware-specific issues like this.

I had this happening in X1 and it was to do with my Sandy Bridge processor and Sonar not playing nice with it after I installed Windows 7 SP1 which introduced something called Intel AVX.  It was fixed when X1C came out, which mended everything AVX-related.
NB: Your signature says your using 8.5 in which case reporting this as a bug will not result in any fix, in 8.5 anyway.
