Noob needs help!
Hi All, I've had CWMC2003 for a long time, but have never known how to use it fully. I wish there was a tutorial out here in cyberland that would walk me through an example. Basically, take me step-by-step through a project, from plugging in my source to recording each instrument to a track to mixing down for CD. Anyone know of something like this? Sorry to be so naive (hence my username.) Thanks, Brian

Welcome to the forum.
I started with MC 2003, too.
There are tutorials included with it and extensive Help files with a glossary. Sometimes it's not knowing the right terms for things and the glossary helps with that.
As far as plugging things in, you just connect a mic to your sound card's mic input or a guitar or keyboard to the line input, select the input in the track you want to record on, click Arm for recording then the Record button.
Then there is MIDI. If you have a MIDI-capable keyboard, you just plug in the MIDI cables, or USB, to the computer, select the input, channel, bank and patch in a MIDI track, click Arm for recording then the record button and play the keyboard.
But you don't need a keyboard with MIDI; you can enter notes with the mouse in either the Staff view or Piano Roll view (PRV).
I recommend reading through the Getting Started section of the Help files and doing the tutorials to get you familiar with how things work and what the differences are between Audio and MIDI.
Note: for best recording satisfaction, and audio interface (a better kind of sound card) designed for recording is almost mandatory.

Thanks Greg, What I was hoping for was maybe a youTube video of someone going through the basic steps. I have looked at the tutorials contained in the program, but think I'd absorb more by seeing someone actually doing it.

Brian, it might be time to consider MC6 since there have been a ton of MAJOR improvements since MC3.
Especially in the synths and the sounds that come with it.

yeah, unfortunately MC 2003 was sooooooo 2003!  there's not likely going to be a lot of info on that program available. MC6 is currently on sale (until May 22) for only $20 for either the boxed version or the download version. With some of the earlier versions... 4 & 5 maybe, the boxed versions with discs had more content than the DL versions.
It had more to do with the synth sounds and samples having more sounds in the libraries on the disc.
So I would think cake is probably still doing that.... the boxed version takes a few days longer to get, but if it has more stuff in it, might just be worth the wait of a few days.
$20 is a deal for MC6 for real!!!! aka: no brainer if MC3 is the most current version you have.

not MC3, MC 2003! it's much older and a lot less powerful than MC3!
I don't think there's a difference between the boxed version and the download version of MC6. that was very true for MC5, but I don't think they did that for MC6. I could be wrong, tho.

Thanks for the video link Greg. It does have some useful content. And the rest of you guys, that is sound advice (no pun intended) in regards to buying the latest version. Unfortunately, I don't have a pot to piss in at the moment. And when it comes right down to it, MC2003 is all I need at the moment. I've just been trying to capture my band's practices, so we can critique, etc. Audio only, no MIDI stuff. Once I get back working, I probably will invest in the latest MC. Looks like a lot more intuitive GUI. Thanks all for the advice! Take care.
