Not 1, Not 2, yes, you are reading it here... 3 girl drummers.
woah....
Last night's First Friday jamathon was a big un.
I got there early and set up a stage then me and the missus walked the gallery and food stuff circuit to see some art and friends. When we got back, there was a local band juking and jiving on the stage and we slowly started rotating people in.
Lot's of singer songwriters and a few jazzy players.
We even played Johnny Cash songs.
Not only did an old friend with a Berklee masters show up to play some trap kit but we had... not 1, not 2, but 3 girls take a turn at the drums and they were all awesome.
Last month I had to hold down the drum duties... last night I wouldn't have dared take a turn at the task.
I got to play a house MIM Tele guitar through my home made amp a whole bunch. I was stoked to become aware that all the guitarists wanted to play my little amp. It seems like everyone can immediately recognize the fact that a single ended amp with lots of high gain has a sound you don't find in music stores. It had 10 or more guys run their chops through it. I really enjoyed getting to sit down and listen.
At the end of the evening the Berklee drummer and one of our town's hot young bass players did a little something that I rarely see or hear. A full on Vulcan mind meld drum and bass improv. The kind of stuff that can happen anytime, any place but doesn't often.
Great times.
Wish you were here.
best regards,
mike
