Not Used

Hi All,
This is a simple kind of song, but I thought I'd take a chance and see how it fares here.
Hope it doesn't bore the socks off ya, or there'll be a bunch more barefooted songwriters cakewalking around.

Thanks very much,

I pictured your white cat singing this.  She looks like she'd be sultry.  I really like your songwriting.  I find myself sketching out the form.  It's always very inventive.  Congratulations on finishing another great tune!

You have certain Kate Bush qualities with your vocal, which is OK.  Nice tune, nicely sung and played.  For me the mix felt narrow, perhaps spread thing out a little.  Thanks for sharing.

Wookiee, thanks for the tip about the mix. I've definitely heard OF Kate Bush, but I'm not sure I've ever heard her sing. I should check her out.

This is my favorite of all the tunes of yours that I've heard.  It makes excellent use of your unique vocal abilities.  The song comes across really well despite some production shortcomings.  Laura, you should really consider letting someone help you on the production side.  I saw where James Yoyo volunteered, and I'm sure there are others who would be happy to help, myself included.  It would make a big difference in the finished product.

Thank you so much for your comments, Marshall, blue ice, Larry Jones, philz, and emerald soul (I'm sorry, I can't figure out how to "bold" your names on this device). I appreciate each and every one very much.

philz, I still wish more than anything that I were capable of doing what you suggest, but it's beyond me. So it seems that my only choice is to keep trying to do it myself and have it not sound good enough or not try to do music at all. I'm not sure which to choose any more.

Laura, I've been following you in the background for a while, and I have to say this is one of your better songs.  The tone of your vocal is smooth and present without being overly bright.  I like the sparseness of your arrangements because I can hear every nuance of your performances.  That usually makes one play better as it does for you.  I do have one question; why not sing harmony with yourself?  A song like this, while sounding good with a single vocal, could really go over the top with a vocal arrangement.  I think you'd shine with this.  Anyway, I remain a fan.

    All the best,

Thank you, Lynn, for your very kind and encouraging comments.

I actually thought about putting in some harmony and then decided that I'd been overdoing it with the harmony lately, but on second thought, you have a good point. It's very helpful to hear another perspective.

Right now though, I'm not sure about anything. I'm hoping it passes, though :)

I do think the mix would benefit from a little more width, and harmonies would be a really nice touch - you have the voice for it.    As for the song itself, there's no missing that it's you... from the chord changes to the melody to the quirky arrangement.      What exactly is that instrument that trails off in the end?

as usual it's the little quirks in the arrangement which make this. i actually like this less than your others simply because it's less quirky and straighter but it still sounds just like you.

It's like another poster said...It's Skinnybones Lampshade.  Very catchy, if not a bit repetitive in the verse, nicely done.  Though, like I always say, bring up them drums a little!  Always love your stuff.

This is a quirky number --- to me that is a good thing!!!  It is not just the interesting way that you present your vocals but when it started I thought that it had a bit of an almost reggae feel to it (primarily some of the drum fills and a touch of the keyboard) but some where around the middle of the song it seemed to transition slightly to a more pop (or something else) feel.  I thought that was either very cool or perhaps my imagination.  I'll go for cool.

I too liked the sparseness of this number and please put my vote down for some added harmonies.

    Nice one!!!!

Hi Laura, this is a good demo of your song -- the vocals are upfront and understandable (and well performed), the mix is good and the arrangement is interesting.  (A nit:  too many snare hits repeating that kinda drag down the feel a bit.)  Your chord changes, as usual, are very interesting while your guitar playing is crisp and never ceases to intrigue the listener.

You're a unique singer/songwriter.  You're not a software hobbyist searching for that 'perfect' eq or a creator of sterile pastiche.  You've got soul.  Your demos sound fine.  Carry on.

I look forward to hearing you in 2017.
