Not able to record from the microphone through USB interface (answered)

Hi,

I'm new to using Sonar products.  I was only using Audacity in the past, and it was very simple to use comparing to the Sonar.

I just bought the Sonar Professional two days ago, and I was trying to connect the Rode NT1 to it with the Presonus Audiobox, but the mic was not being recorded when I press record.  The connections were fine, and the mic was recorded fine with Audacity.

Please help!

Thanks!

Sincerely,
Kristie

Did you arm the audio track before clicking the record button?

The record button or pressing "R" on keypad will do nothing unless you followed the steps to make it happen. Sonar is not software that can be used immediately like Audacity.
You should take the time , which might be a few days to read and do the tutorials.

The steps required to record anaudio track are
First make sure you have installed the latest ASIO drivers for your interface.
Check in preferances that all your settings are as you wish and that the Audiobox is the timing master and the inputs and outputs show in that tab under audio settings.

    Insert an audio track
Set it's input to match were you have plugged in the mike
press the record icon of the track.
The meter should show level activity now.
Now when you hit record it will work.

Thoroughly recommend you do the tutorials. With Sonar open press F1. There are 9 basic tutorials. Select the appropriate one and follow through on it.

One thing to watch out for after you view the tutorials is your punch in and punch out settings.  If they are not set then you can record any place in the song.  But if they are you can only record where the punch in/our settings are set.  Been there done that a couple of times!

I watched those videos already, but I still didn't get it.  I already read a few things on the Cakewalk support page and figured it out.  I had to open the "Sound" to choose my audiobox as primary recording and playback devices, and I had to set the input to left audiobox ASIO driver IN 1. I'm now trying to learn how to add compression, reverb, and roll off low frequencies.

    Thanks everyone :)

Congrats - can you please edit your initial post for the thread, and add [Solved] or mark the thread as Answered?

Thanks, and welcome to the Sonar community.  There are LOTS of really really good folks in these forums, and if you also do some homework by watching available videos and reading the doc for things you are trying to learn, you will find Sonar incredibly feature-rich, and will be able to do just about anything you need done with a DAW.

When I search for videos, I wasn't able to find a lot for the Professional version. I saw a lot of Sonar X1, Sonar X3...

I just want to learn how to do the EQ thing now haha
    And recording techniques

    Thanks!
