creynolds,

Thanks for taking the time to run that test again. I was also curious to find out about the results. I'm glad it worked out better the second time!

The GUI issue is a funny one. I really wanted something that looked cool. Shallow I know, but I have clients with posh Mac's looking over my shoulder all day. I hated the visual basic look of the old Sonar and really hoped they would do a Logic/Live version of Sonar that was a little more contemporary. Whatever, opportunity lost.

What we got is a better looking interface, but it lost sight of the goal of useabilty.

Why is the Transport and toolbar so large?
How could the narrow console get to be so fouled up and compromised?

I actually don't think it's beta testing. I think it's more to do with dealing with too small a group of verbose individuals. I think it simply got missed. It's very easy when developing to just keep presenting the images that you want approved. If you don't ask for opinions or don't give the replies and the proper credance, you just get what you profferd with small modifications. The GUI was the one time an open user poll should have been initiated. You can't please all the people all of the time. But if you don't even ask, what do you get?

And finally, Sonar X1 (Sorry guys, it still sounds like it was flown by Gary Powers to me) Ugh!

That's not how things are developed at Cakewalk as far as I can see and the systemic problems you suggest are certainly not present. FWIW: Narrow strips are being addressed at least to some degree in X1b.

As for the "name". The software is still called SONAR. The version modifier is X1. You are likely in a minority as to your distaste for this version name. It has been presented to dealers, press, distributors, and salespeople all over the world (hundreds of poeple) and not one person has had that reaction or has offered it if they did. You are entitled to your opinion of course but careful with projecting it as ubiquitous. After all it's an entirely subjective matter.

Just think of it as "SONAR" if it helps.

All these grand paragraphs, and super-long posts......Just to say the obvious to moderate, and expert users of Sonar....Simply put, Sonar x1 Sucks in comparison to previous releases.....Perhaps a "legacy view" would unsuck the new Sonar...Just an honest opinion of a user that has been faithful for 15 years.....

I couldn't disagree more. If there is something specific I can help you with in getting acquainted to the new interface, please let me know.

Hey Brandon, get over yourself. Just make it so it doesn't suck. How hard can that be? Maybe Noel can help?

Brandon,

I think the switch to X1 was a good indicator that, yes, this is still SONAR, but it has evolved and is rather different that previous releases. To me, the change in version identifier is a signal to expect big changes when you see it, which is what we got.  There are plenty of legitimate issues with X1 that people can bring up. Getting that annoyed by the naming is just a little odd to me.

I gave a specific, as well as a concensus.  I even gave you a possible way to "unsuck it"...Whether or not you choose to take into consideration is totally up to you and your company.....Just like If I choose to stay with your company, using this sucky product that I paid for and  that I have used for over 15 years is mine...

I use pro tools and sonar, pro tools only to transfer projects to sonar...

The sound is not better in pro tools.

that is utter hogwash. They both sound great.

Sonar X1? Seriously? Nothing wrong with this name. I think it sounds cool actually.

GUI dark? well the light slate grey background allows track names, clips, etc. to pop out better, easy to see, and looks cool IMHO-

haha it is really easy to see everything in my scheme. And as you see, when I select a clip it is bright green so it is also very easy to see.
