Notation Software?

What would you guys choose if you're main needs were guitar transcriptions with both standard notation, tabs and all the necessary articulations at a modest price?

first look at Forte I see a 4 voice max per staff. Doesn't seem like that's very friendly with a 6 string guitar. Or am I misunderstanding?

I'm sure it does guitar and bass tabulature, although I've never used tabs.

There was a deal recently to get it for half price which I did. Not sure if that deal is still going but Larry will know.

Pass on Forte. I have the top tier Forte 7. The developers are mostly interested in choral and classical arrangements. I've uninstalled it. I have Notion 6, Ovation 5, Guitar Pro 6 and MagicScore Guitar 8.

Although the UI for MagicScore Guitar 8 looks very old, it may be the best bang for the buck for what you want to accomplish ($40). I pity anyone trying to write a score/tab with GP6. Ugh. GP7 is supposed to be entering beta shortly. Hopefully, it has a much improved editor. Notion 6 and Ovation 5 are both good, but likely more than you'd like spend.

I really like Notion (still on 5). And their iPad app is great too so notation is all over the place now ;)

I used to like Finaly a lot but it got a bit... "old" for me.

EDIT: I see they have something called Progression which seem to be aimed at guitarists

I've asked this question before on another notation software and got a clarification. 4 voice does not mean 4 notes played at the same time. Guitar notation is mostly 2 or 3 voice - for finger style, the bottom voice for bass, mid for chords and top for melody. In most classical pieces, it's mainly 2 voice. Each voice can be more than a single note, supports it's own region [edit] of rest notes, ties, etc.

Notion demo here (it's the actual software, runs on demo if not activated). I've just upgraded to the current version.

    Sixfinger,

I bought Presonus Studio One Pro recently and there is a download link to Notion Demo in my account so maybe you have to create an account with them (easy to do and free) to get the demo link. I cannot see a download link  anywhere else.

I am going to try the demo myself. One of my requirements is the ability to scan printed or import PDF scores, convert to an editable score and also export to MIDI so I am hoping it can do this as well as SmartScore X2.

+1 for Notion.  The only thing it won't do is a slide/bend from a ghost note, which I find irritating.  I reported it N4, still the same in N5.  I haven't upgraded to N6 yet, but prolly will at some point for S1/3 integration.  G-Pro is OK, but kind of niggly to me.  A new version has been announced for later this year.  GP6 is ancient at this point.

FYI, Notion has everything Progression has plus more.

Still the same in N6. I checked when you mentioned this previously. There may be a will, but I was unable to find a way.
