Note lengths

I've barely used X1 since I installed it as I really don't like the way I have to edit midi and have stayed with sonar 8.5.
Can someone tell me when adding new drum notes, how do I make them the same length as the previous ones?
In 8.5 just clicking on the existing note would determine the length of the notes about to be written.
It couldn't have been easier in 8.5 and it drives me mad the way they messed it up in X1 and it's the main reason I stuck with 8.5.
I'm sure lots of people will tell me the new method is much easier but I bet it involves using the keyboard which I didn't have to do before.

I don't want it to be permanent unless you're saying I have to do it for each note which would just be insane 
I just thought there was absolutely nothing wrong with the previous method.

Not 100% sure what you are looking for, but after I create a drum track, I usually Select All and use Find/Change to set them all the 10 ticks.
 
When entering, I work in Staff and X1 (for me) usually defaults to the value selected in the drop-down above (1/4, 1/8, etc.).  More often, though, I CTRL+drag an existing note to create a new one.
 
If you are in Piano Roll, I don't know what to do unless you change after the fact.

Yeah my notes tend to be 30 or there abouts. I wish I could just have it set that way permanently when a midi track is assigned
to a drum synth. That would be really useful and shouldn't have to be midi channel dependent.
