Nothing To Nobody (RLD, MARKNO Collaboration - Robben Ford Cover Song)

A fellow Cakewalk forum member (RLD) and I recently did a Badfinger cover song of No Matter What, that was posted on the forum a month or so back.  We decided to do another song which featured more focus on guitar.  We picked Robben Ford's Nothing to Nobody.  This is our interpretation of Robben's song.  It is a funky blues song.

RLD did all the vocals, guitar fills and first guitar solo and I did the backing track, rhythm guitar and the solo at the end.  As it is based on a live version it is still quite long at 6 minutes.  (I trimmed 5 minutes off the original.)  RLD's guitar solo ends at 4 minute mark, it is quite good so I would encourage you to go that far, if you get through all 6 minutes even better.   Hope you like it.

Hi Mark, very nice job, good vocals and excellent guitar playing by the both of you. No need to cut five minutes of guitar playing in the future .

Robben Ford is great.  You guys really tear this up.  I love the vocals.  It's all great.  I love this type of music and I get gut wrench in places here.   Guitar tone and playing is awesome.  Backing tracks set it all up.  Nice job youse mugs!  :-)

Rik- Thanks for the listen, glad you enjoyed it.  Next time we will double the length of the guitar solos.

Warren -  Actually I had not heard much Robben Ford prior to this endeavor but am now a big fan, quite a talented guy with a long career.  RLD deserves the credit for suggesting doing a Robben Ford song.   Was quite enjoyable pulling it all together.

Tom-Appreciate the A+, that gives us a 4.0 GPA for the day.

John - Thank for the smiley.   Smiley back at you for listening to all 6 minutes.

Richard - Appreciate your comments on the rhythm section.   It really started with a whole lot of busy parts - then went back and trimmed a whole lot of parts/instrumentation so it all gelled.  That was a learning experience from a mixing and arranging perspective.   I learned that important lesson that more times than not, less is more when it comes to backing tracks.

Favorite thing I have heard posted in a while!  Not familiar with the original.  Sounds like a Steely Dan or Santana thing.  Great all around.  Every instument is very distinct and clear.  Nice stage placement.  Feel like I am setting on the front row and loving it.  Again, great job!

BretB-Appreciate your comments on the song.   Steely Dan and Santana are among my favorite groups so will take that.  Also appreciate your comments on the mix and stage placement.  I haven't posted a lot in the past as I didn't think my mixes were up to par.   Of course in this case, RLD's vocal and guitar performances certainly contributed greatly to the success of the project and overall vibe of the song.

    Tim- Thank you.

Dan-Glad you made it through all 6 minutes,  maybe I will do Bohemian Rhapsody next.

Scott-thank you.  I am a fan of your guitar playing as well.

Janet-Appreciate your comments.  We did another song called No Matter What by Badfinger not too long ago available here:
    http://www.soundclick.com...&q=hi&newref=1

RLD did all the main and backing vocals on this Badfinger track as well.   I think RLD might be on a business trip this week but maybe will chime in later to discuss his vocals and mad guitar solo from Nothing to Nobody.

    Regards

James - thank you, appreciate your comments.

Vicente - thanks for listening.  I like this genre as well but hadn't really ever done any of this style in the past.  It was a fun time.   Yes, RLD is a good singer and guitar player for sure.   That made the mixing and production a lot easier too.

I had never heard of Robben, but you did a killer job here, I really like the vibe you laid down underneath, it provides an excellent canvas on which to overlay. Awesome guitar work there at the end too, from 4:50 on, very nice.

Thanks Robby.  Spent a lot of time on the backing track getting all the pieces to work together.  I tend to produce overly busy stuff and then have to go back and simplify it later.
