Nothing but crashes since I got expanded
I have to reboot all the time. Loosing a lot of work. It just keeps freezing and crashing. It worked fine before expanded.

I would think that the expanded install is the culprit then. Did you install it onto X1c? I believe that's the only version expanded should go over. I'd try contacting tech support to see if they have any ideas or quicker fixes but I think an uninstall followed by an install of X1 up to X1c then X1 expanded then the X1d expanded patch is the way to go.

Yep, I had installed X1 D before I installed expanded. Dang it. So what do I have to do... re install? Crap, I had no idea that was a problem. If it crashes, which it does all the time now. I have to reboot because it just wont open until I reboot and then it's only a matter of time before it crashes again. So I assume that I have all the necessary downloads... will have to check. How do you guys recommend I re install it?

I would uninstall it and start over. Then follow all the instructions from CW in updating X1.

id uninstall everything including the regestry values and start completely over from the begining, last thing you want is to uninstall a unstable installation and for all the work it takes do it for nothing. here is how: For a clean installation of SONAR X1 please try the following: 1) Completely un-install SONAR from your computer. This is normally done from Start | Programs | Cakewalk. This will not remove any of your project files or audio data. 2) Next you will want to open the Run Command a) In Windows XP this can be done by going to Start | Run b) In Windows Vista and 7 this can be done by holding down the ‘windows’ key and pressing ‘r’ 3) At the prompt type regedit and click OK. ***Backup your Registry before making edits - you do this by clicking the File menu, Export Registry File. 4) Now delete the following Registry keys: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR PRODUCER\X1 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR PRODUCER\X1 *Please note that this will remove any effects presets and key bindings you may have made in Cakewalk. You can back these up separately if you like, using Options|Key Bindings, Tools|SONAR Plug-in Manager, and Options|Colors. Hit F1 in these views for detailed instructions on how to do this. 5) Open the 'Run' command again. 6) Copy and paste the following into the prompt: %appdata%\Cakewalk 7) This will open your Cakewalk Application Data folder, right-click on the SONAR folder and choose rename. 8) Rename this folder SONAR X1 Backup. 9) Open the 'Run' command again and type msconfig Click OK and then click on the Startup tab at the upper right of the window that opens. 10) Uncheck all items listed, click OK, then restart your computer. You can always recheck those items again at a later time. 11) Then reinstall SONAR. Make sure to have any virus scanners disabled on installation. It is not required or recommended to turn off any windows services. This should eliminate any software irregularities that are causing your problem. then install Producer 64 bit, then upgrade "C",then the "Expanded" package, then Upgrade "D". serioulsy, just follow these instructions and youll be good to go. this method completely removes sonar from your computer like it was never even there. so like i said back up any settings (and you regestry just to be safe)

Now that I have it back and installed... Guitar Rig is only giving me the demo version and this was one of my favorite effects. It's not even showing up in 64 bit. I have tried to activate it and the site is slow, finally got it activated and it's still the Demo. Any advice?

If you activated it through NI website...try running GR4 as a stand alone. Then try it in Sonar. Seems as though I read somewhere that this will help with the activation in Sonar. Or maybe it was that you need to activate it from the stand alone program. But it's worth a try.

@Teds_Srudio... That is what I have read too. GR4 will not upgrade within Sonar. You have to just start GR4 on it's own and then try. Also, when you open GR instead of just double clicking the icon or the regular "Run" option right click and choose "Run As Administrator". That seems to solve registration issues with many programs.

Actually come to think of it amongst other things I needed to install with the X1 Suite under the "Run As Administrator" as opposed to the regular "Run" or double click method of opening the programs GR4 was one of them. When I first installed the suite I only had the minimal GR demo and no extra amps or effects. I tried to register GR4 with NI using the regular "Run" options and nothing appeared in my GR bins. After doing the "Run As Administrator" dance (thanks to some google searching) and doing it that way everything worked fine and I was able to access GR4 LE. I will hopefully be upgrading to the full GR5 Pro edition soon. It is a very nice program and has evolved a lot since I last played with it years ago. Good luck.

Yeah, I had to do the "Run as Administrator" to get Dim Pro to register. Could be the same for GR4...I can't remember about that one but it's sure worth a try.

Ok, so I have followed all of the instructions for uninstalling and then re installing multiple times and then still the same ****. Some installs were better than others. Some just plain sucked. I now have everything activated but the program will rarely even boot up. It does it's scan and then wont open the program. I reboot and maybe it will re scan and sometimes it will open. I followed Chucks instructions to the T and no luck. Here's what I think. I have a Terabyte hard drive split so it's a C and D drive. On the original install, some stuff went on D. I've got redundant folders from the looks of it. On my last install, I just let it put everything on C. I'm starting to wonder if I just shouldn't pack everything I can audio and project wise on my external and wipe the whole dang computer and reinstall Windows for an absolute clean start. That would be the worst case scenario. Not looking forward to that. Could it be that files on my D drive are interfering with the program? I mean this last install was promising. It worked a few times, almost enough to get a project started. This is very frustrating. I think I've been through this whole process more than 4 times.

I experienced my first crash with X1 Expanded last night. I was fooling around with the Pro Channel, clicked on something and it crashed. I lost my test recording which I thought I had saved. No big deal but it was annoying. That's the first crash I've had with any version of X1. Considering the program has been up and running all weekend, that's really not too bad. I have been using X1 very heavily the last week since I bought my bass. I'm surprised it held up this long. Pro Tool SE would crash in the first 2 minutes.

I got it working. But it's just expanded over X1C without the X1D patch. It works great, totally stable and not a single hitch. I had a suspicion that I should just wait and try the program after C and then after expanded try it again. Everything worked. As soon as I put on D, it has a hard time loading, flashes what looks like some weird ghost version of the docked browser in the center and then will open and play a project, but anytime I hit stop on the transport it freezes and then will not reboot. I think I'll just leave it at expanded at the moment so I can continue working. But it seems to me that either my X1D download is corrupt, or something is very wrong with my PC. How can I find out which build my original disc is? I bought it through Guitar Center a long time ago so it could be one of the earliest ones. I know I didn't wait too long after X1 came out to go and get it ordered.

But it seems to me that either my X1D download is corrupt, or something is very wrong with my PC. If X1 works great until you install the X1D patch, then I would not be looking at my PC. At this point, you should contact tech support. There's no reason why installing a patch should bring your DAW to it's knees like this unless there is a problem with the patch. The D patch is not the end all be all to make X1 perfect. It's got bugs in it like all the other patches. One of the biggest problems I ran in to with the D patch is it screwed up the Softube Sat Knob module in the Pro Channel. I ended up having to do a system restore back to X1C Expanded, copy the old Softube .DLL from X1C-Expanded, reinstall the D patch, and overwrite the new .DLL with the old one. At this point, you really need to contact tech support on the phone. Doing it via email is just going to frustrate the hell out of you. Good luck. Bub.

I contacted tech support today and here is what I learned. The tech said it was perfectly fine to put Expanded over X1D and that my problem was most likely because I was using my sound card rather than the ASIO driver for my fast track. So I go and expand my usb hubs so I can have my fast track on all the time and all my other happy horse poop. The whole time on the phone I'm describing that it only crashes once X1d is installed, he says it just shouldn't do that. So I re-download X1d expanded from cakewalk just in case I got a corrupt download and install it... the thing wont even boot up. It scans, craps out and that's that. Have to restart. In fact. I'm redoing this whole process, yet again. This has got to be about the 7th re install.

If it locks up during or right after scanning for plug-ins, it seems like it could be a renegade plug-in causing you some grief. Can you start in "safe mode" (hold down shift while starting Sonar)?

I got it working again. Just didn't add D to it. I just don't understand why it seems that Expanded works just fine but then D ruins the party. Everyone assures me that it should not.
