Novation Remote SL

Has anybody had success using the Novation Remote SL midi controller with Sonar 8.5.3?

I have a Remote SL Zero (original version) I use with Automap. What are you trying to do?

I jsut want to record  on different midi channels using Omnisphere and Trilian.  I am starting all over with midi since I've learned so many wrong ways.  I want to start from scratch.   So, in essence, I just want to know which buttons to push to get to transmitting midi.  I think I can make that a starting point.  Edit mode or play mode?

To make it easier, I just want to set  up automap where I can set up Dimension Pro or any synth in Sonar.  When I bought the Remote, I thought it was going to be easy, but with Sonar it is actually a pain.  Reason works like a charm but all I can do at this point is do a mix with Sonar.  Should I use ACT with the plugins that come with Sonar? such as DPro, Z3ta, Rapture, and the effects?

I also want to know if you are supposed to record on a different midi channel for every instrument that's inserted in the synth rack?

I've found Automap works much better than ACT, and it also takes advantage of the SL's display, so that's what I use. It is possible to switch the mode of the SL from Automap to a different control mode to use with ACT if you really want to use both, but I don't do that.

You initially have to "wrap" any VST plugins you want to use in Automap and then rescan for plugins in Sonar so that the wrapped versions show up.

Then you insert the Automap wrapped version of the plugin in the Synth Rack or FX bin. Then whenever you bring the focus to either Sonar itself, or a wrapped Automap synth or FX plugin, your SL will switch to control that automatically and show the current settings on your SL's display (make sure your SL is in Automap mode).

You will probably want to assign your individual faders, buttons, etc. on the SL to control the specific automatable parameters you want for each FX/synth on the Automap screen, and save it as the default mapping for that plugin. It will create default mappings on it's own, but usually you will want to change them.

It takes a little time to get it set up, but once you do so it works very well.

I have used a novation sl 61 with terrific success with any vst except the spectrasonics stuff.  I find it to be pretty mediocre when tasked as a control surface for sonars mixer because it only does basic functions and can not control prochannel.  Once you have it set up it is spectacularly easy even fun to do custom mappings for vsts.  I am a really big fan of novation to control vsts.

Im trying to figure out how to use act now to control sonar mixer.

http://www.cakewalk.com/s...reader.aspx/2007013069 I have an SL mk2 but need to contact novation.. the alterations to the template have thrown reason out the window for me, e.g. the transport etc. each company has their own format (i.e. ACT / automap)
