OK, new question - when would I look for the actual update to be out?  Not trying to rush Cakewalk by any stretch, just curious as I haven't paid much attention in the past.

SONAR Platinum, Win7 Home Premium 64bit, Sweetwater Creation Station CS250v21 (Ivy Bridge Core i5 3.4Ghz CPU, 12GB DDR3/1600Mhz RAM, 500GB/1TB Seagate Barracuda system/audio drives, SATA 6.0, USB 3.0), M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB, 2x KRK Rokit 5's, Yamaha MO8

It seems to variety between about 3 days and 10 days, depending on whether there are any minor issues with the early release.

The release candidate I used for writing the eZine seemed really solid, and the early release is a later rev. It wouldn't surprise me if the early release ends up being the same as the final release, but we'll see what happens after the early release is out in the world for a few days.

I think the over riding principle that Cakewalk applies is that things are ready for release to a set standard, that is early access or full release.

Boy, I hope the final is not the same as the early access. I've got major hassles (a few, it would seem). Mainly, this edition has slowed my 4.5 gHz quad i7 machine to a complete crawl. It seems to be freezing left, right, and sideways. Sometimes it comes out of the freeze, sometimes it just stuck in unresponsive mode.

Where do I report the issues?

Forgive me, Craig, but I've got something really odd going on: my second thread is screaming into the red zone (I've literally never seen this) while the other threads are running at @10-15% at most (this is both with and without load balancing).

I've only got one instance of Ivory running (American Concert D.)

No doubt about it: this release is driving the 8 threads all crazy. They all are peaking quickly and randomly. (I'm glad that I can view this in the thread monitor).

Weird.

Now, as I just looked, they seem to have calmed down quite a bit. How odd.

Thanks, Craig. I appreciate any help you can give.

The reduction to a crawl/freezing does seem worse when opening works that were started in older versions. There is an issue as well with trying to double-click to open soft synths from synth rack. So far, this freezes Sonar 100% of the time and I have to shut down and restart. Loading soft synths  takes a really long time when opening older tunes.

The main concern with new works is the weird spread across the 8 threads until it settles down (a few moments). I'm not sure that this slows down the computer yet (though it may). I can open soft synths in new tunes just fine.

I believe it supports whatever chipset your computer uses (Realtek, IDT, Intel, etc.).

This kind of sounds like WASAPI supports only onboard chipsets (right?). Does WASAPI support interfaces that reside outside the computer (like the RME BabyFace)? Does the connection type play a significant part?

I'm not an expert about this, so the following may or may not be true...but I think that the SONAR WASAPI mode is for internal chipsets only. I tried using it with external audio interfaces, and the results were about the same as MME.

Outstanding release, and e-zine. What a great resource this is. Craig I know it seems like your efforts are taken for granted, but I just wanted to say how excellent the e-zine is as an accompaniment to each monthly release. Especially valuable with a release with as much "stuff" as this one. Thanks Craig! Thanks Bakers!

I'm guessing that it's only for onboard chipsets as I'm not getting any sound whatsoever when I turn it on (I just had a chance to try it just now.) It seems that the latency (if I could have gotten it to work) would have been roughly the same or a tad slower than my Babyface running on ASIO.

And please allow me to join the chorus in thanking you for the e-zine. It's very cool.

you are not alone, a relatively small project which worked/played prior to latest update without issue, now stutters and jerks, and has been visited by the rice bubble brothers, snap, crackle and pop . . . big time. do more testing with a fresh project, but doesn't look good atm. was just about to look seriously about coming back to sonar, but now i don't know, this is what i hate about the constant updates, you just never know whats going to be broken next month, and yes i know you don't have to update, but of course in the end you do bummer

[edit] sorry to say you are on your own again it seems as mysteriously as it turned up, it has gone, (only thing i done was the magical reboot) everything is working just as it was prior so far, and will hopefully continue as such. i like a few things in this new release

I recommend doing what I do with Mac OS updates these days...stay on the current update until you get the "all clear." Of course the difference with SONAR is you can roll back easily and keep on working. I still haven't figured out if there's a way to roll back a Mac OS update. If anyone knows, clue me in...

Clearly if more than one person experiences the same issue, there's an issue. But if a far greater number of people don't report an issue, then it means there's some kind of specific fix that needs to be tracked down and applied.

Cakewalk has been pretty good about nailing these either in the next release, or in some cases, with a hotfix. That said, it's working fine here so I can't offer any suggestions. However it did take a couple reboots for everything to get happy.

I posted some more information here.
WASAPI will work with any device that shows up and works in WINDOWS itself. I've tried it on several pro audio interfaces as well such as an RME UFX and a MOTU. With pro audio devices you may also need to set the device latency independently in the driver control panel. Until I did that I didn't get low latency.

Hi Noel,

Thanks for the note. When you say that one needs to set device latency independently, what exactly is one looking for? Setting the latency in the driver panel is easy enough, but are you saying that we are matching the expected latency of the WASAPI driver or...?
