Now Drinking....

I thought I'd post this quickly as it's only good until All Hallow's Eve:

The tangerine notes really make for a nice "foil" to the overall hoppiness of the ale. Highly recommended.

“Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy” is attributed to Benjamin Franklin perhaps in error, but the thought remains a worthy sentiment nonetheless.

Looks interesting. I generally favor the wheats and less hoppy.

I'm not sure if I've ever had a tangerine IPA...  I'm definitely a micro-brew guy, I can't stand mainstream pee-water beer.  Usually Drop-Top, Mirrorpond, Younger's Special Bitter or Old Speckled Hen, but right now I'm enjoying this:

I mentioned it before. It's called Sainte Croix.

I don't know much about wine, except that this is one I really like and it's very inexpensive down here. Back in Quebec, I used to pay $15 a bottle for it.

I don't usually drink beer at home, only when we go out. And then Guinness it is. I like the fact that you can drink like 20 of those and still walk straight. :P

BTW, today is National Cheeseburger Day. I'll probably go out for a burger tonight; I don't know what's on tap where I'll have said burger, but I'll let you know what I have later.

I find Apothic Red pairs nicely with Double-bacon-cheeseburgers.  Also BBQ of any kind.  And pizza with bacon, of course.  I like with food, without food and with or without a glass.

I didn't get there tonight.

I'm hoping tomorrow I will, even though it's not National Cheeseburger Day. And becan is always present on my cheeseburgers. It just has to be.

One of my favorite ales for Cheeseburgers is Dirt Wolf (heck, it's probably my favorite ale for anything).

Another is Limbo.

Re: Now Drinking.... 2016/10/21 18:51:45 (permalink)
So, I got to have my burger and brew a couple of nights ago. The burger did look like the burger above (yes, there was becan!). The brew I opted out for was a local: Czigmeister (from Hackettstown, NJ; pronounced like "Sig") IPA. It was very good. Fairly bitter, very hoppy and on the flatter side, almost like some bitters I've had. It REALLY hit the spot (right above the navel). Strangely, it's listed on the site as the spring seasonal, but apparently it's still being brewed (along with the summer and fall seasonal).

I had this last night at a local bistro: Man Skirt "Better than Pants" English Bitters.

It was really nice, not too bitter, very smooth going down. A really nice complement to my Bacon Cheddar Burger. ABV wasn't high: only a 4% and 29 IBU. As you can tell from this picture, not too much of a head on it (as to be expected).

It's brewed in Hackettstown, NJ. A solid 4 stars out of 5.

Another excellent citrus-note IPA:

Tangerine and grapefruit notes mark this one. 4.5 out of 5 stars. 7.6 ABV, 80 IBU's. A Long Trail Brewing all year release. Very cool.

I'm not sure if it pairs well with turkey and dressing.

Yet another:

Brewed by Arrogant Brewing (which is related to Stone Brewing[?]), in small batches, at certain intervals.

It was very good. Strong IPA (8.5 ABV, IBU rating is "classified" according to the site, but it's probably about an 80). This ale is a blend of Arrogant Bastard, Double Bastard, and Oaked Arrogant Bastard. If you appreciate one (all) of these three ales, you'll like this one.

It's excellent, @ 4.5 out of 5. I enjoyed it with Cabot Seriously Sharp Cheddar. Yum. Double yum.

Czig Meister's
PumperDunkelweizen Dunkelweizen 5.6% ABV 13 IBU 4 out of 5 stars.

Czig Meister is a microbrewery in Hackettstown, NJ. I liked this fairly sudsy Dunkelweizen with its pumpernickel finish. I enjoyed it with a beautiful Bacon Cheddar Cheeseburger at Mattar's Bistro, also in Hackettstown. This picture is a bit darker than it appeared.

Re: Now Drinking.... 2016/12/06 22:57:51 (permalink)
It being Christmastide, the number of brews oriented to the holiday is growing. On Friday, I had the following:

I've had it before and enjoyed it. The "specs" are (copied directly from the Rogue site):

Style: Red Ale FOOD PAIRING: Beef, Pork
Tasting Notes: A double hopped Red Ale, reddish in color with a roasty, malty flavor and a well balanced spruce finish.
12 Ingredients: 2 Row, Munich, C15, C40, C75 and Rogue Farms Dare™ & Risk™ Malts; Rogue Farms Newport, Rebel & Freedom Hops; Free Range Coastal Water and Pacman Yeast

ABV: 5.3%  IBU: 65

Beer Advocate rating: 85 The Bros: 92

I'd say that this is really solid, "standard" red ale. There are no surprises here, but the ale does deliver.

“Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy” is attributed to Benjamin Franklin perhaps in error, but the thought remains a worthy sentiment nonetheless.
