OK I hate the new forum architecture
I never know where the few friends I have are anymore. They could be on other forums. And if I ask questions on hardware, Jinga never comes in with a snappy reply. I am soo lonely.
Some people call me Maurice SPLAT Pro lifetime, ADK 6 core 3.6Ghz with 32 GB RAM, SSD 1TB system drive, 3 3TB regular drives for samples, recordings and misc. Behringer X Touch, UAD Apollo Quad. 2 UAD2 Quads PCI (i think - inside the box whatever that is), Console 1. More guitars (40??) and synths (hard and soft) than talent. Zendrum!!!

Well, if your hardware were functioning correctly, there would be no need for snaps. However, if it currently functions less than optimally, a zipper may do, (or a snicker or two)...

Buck up little camper. We're still here, watchin over ya. Here, shhhh, here's your little blankie and cuddly toy. Now you just lay right down and put your head there on your pillow. Go on. We're all right here. Just a step away. And in the mornin, when you wake up, we'll still be here. And you know why? Because we care for you and want you to grow up big and strong and don't want you to ever feel unloved or unwanted. And should you have a nightmare or get scared in the night, you just call out for one of us. We'll be there, pronto. We're watchin over you, Maurice. Like the twinkling stars and the glowing moon. Hush now. Go on to sleep. See you in the mornin. Shhhhh. G'nite.

Thanks Jinga, ol pal. I take that as a compliment. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up while I was writing it. Don't tell Maurice, tho.

copied and pasted from another thread: I wrote: "...the problem with segregated conversations and segregated settings for conversations. No chance for unanticipated cross pollination of ideas. The premise that we should not speak out of turn in a certain environment because someone thinks it's unsuitable is the very reason we should continue to say what ever we want where ever we want. Something about growing up in the U.S.A. I guess. Segregation is bad policy." I don't buy the living room analogy at all... I've heard it in detail. OVER AND OVER again. I think the analogy is more like a restaurant. It's a commercial enterprise that invites the public in. OK that seems accurate. So in the same way that I might stumble on an unanticipated topic of conversation in a privatized public setting I think healthy forums can provide this sort of cross pollination of ideas. When the thought police say things like: (big time paraphrase here) "I come to this forum for what I want to read about and I don't appreciate having to scroll through what I don,t want to read about" I shake my head and think "how did we as a society get this far with attitudes like that"... I like to accept my scoldings for infractions of this policy of segregation with the understanding that it is Cakewalk's privilege to separate and divide us and make sure it's more difficult to stay abreast of the full range of topics that are being discussed. FWIW, I have made a concerted effort to move from area to area so as to keep access to the broad range of discussions as well as to continue to provide assistance on the occasions I might have a suggestion. I'm trying to be more polite with my actions, but I'm vehemently opposed to the concept that discussions should be segregated as if the priority is to retain some sense of law an order for the quasi librarians who need to manage their access to info in a regimented structure. I think the priority should be to foster a rich broad based discussion that allows everyone to experience information as if by osmosis. Simply viewing the varied topics will enhance your imagination while, studiously avoiding a variety of topics by insisting on regimentation and SEGREGATION is a sure way to remain cloistered and insulated from what other people are thinking about. Segregation is bad policy very best regards, mike

Don't be seduced by the illusion of loneliness there are billions of us that feel that way just like you. Think no more of what you can get from the new structure, rather think of the joy you share just by being there.

Mike, I'm with you on that. It cracks me up when, in an open forum, someone suggests that a particular subject is best left for another thread, that it is inapporopriate for THIS thread. Keep an open mind, friends, nothing is taboo (except politics and religion, for very good reasons)

ORIGINAL: mike_mccue Segregation is bad policy very best regards, mike i think they had a pretty decent balance before, and i also agree that rigidly enforcing topics seems a bit over the top. if someone posts a song in the gear forum, that's obvious, but if a thread goes off topic just leave it be, or just lock it or something.

While it is unfortunate that some threads get moved, for the reasons cited above, it is solely Cakewalk's business what is or isn't acceptable in their own forums. But Cakewalk is pretty tolerant and fair compared to some of the forum users... some of the self-appointed censors and self-important buffoons who try to order others around while hanging out in forums, of which they themselves are guests, seem to believe they have the right to tell others what to say or not say. One fellow, in the Sonar forum, actually ordered a new user complaining about the lack of full default MP3 export to stop whining and move on today (then edited his post after critisisms, even though he'd been quoted), and then presumed to tell him that WE (evidently speaking for the whole forum) were sick of the topic. Talk about delusions of grandeur! I think some people genuinely think that their post counts give them the right to boss others around and treat new customers like annoying idiots, so be thankful Cakewalk does all the moderating themselves and doesn't hand the job off to some of the senior members out there, coz there's a small handful of them who'd be moving/deleting posts and banning members at the drop of a hat!

To get back on topic... Why am I seeing so much whining about the new architecture? Seems to be an epidemic outbreak. Products: Gear: Users: Kind of tough to get yer head round those 3 things I can see, but I think Maurice's usual unbridled honesty has nailed the principle reason behind the whining. The adoring public isn't as large in a sub-forum...notice as you browse round and read the various whines most of the complainants are from the (good old) Producer forum...where in fact it is much improved from the perspective that any worthwhile app specific info is far easier to find but from the ' notice me' perspective it's a real downer.

for me the issue is just that it didn't seem necessary. you had one area for non-cake products, and the forums were balanced enough. hardware and computers? kinda related, if you ask me.
