OK Larry, what's the best price for Auto Tune?

Hi Larry,
What's the best price that Antares Auto Tune 7 sells at?

 I think it's time.

 Thanks!

Rarely on sale..you can pick up AT 7 at Sweetwater for $299,
that's $100 off the normal $399....

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AT7Nat-e/

IMO You'd be WAY farther ahead by upgrading Melodyne Essential to Editor for $149...
Better program, far more powerful...IMO...

I've owned and been using Melodyne Editor for a couple years.

I'm ready to stop waiting for it to work better. ;-)

If you don't use it, it won't get better.

Our tools are only as good as the effort we put into them

I know what Mike is referencing...

Yes, Melodyne has it's idiosyncrasies...
AT has it's own as well.

I have AT Evo, and just missed the opportunity to upgrade to AT 7 for $67.50, half
off the normal $129 from Evo...

Melodyne IMO is FAR more powerful then AT 7....but they both have their place...

Re: OK Larry, what's the best price for Auto Tune? 2014/07/08 07:02:06 (permalink)
I was having disappointing results with Melodyne Editor on a particular bass track yesterday. It did a great job on centering pitch but the rendered results sounded dead and flat. It did and awful job of working with pitch drift. After adjusting for pitch drift there were dozens of misinterpretations that not only sounded bad but couldn't be effectively hand edited with the specialty tools.

The renders also exhibited some timing idiosyncrasies that ruined the groove of the playing. Natch.

For the past couple of years I have seen the internet bullies claim that Melodyne Editor is great but you really have to spend the time to learn how to use. :-)

What ever.

Yesterday, I ended up dragging an old DAW out of the closet and booting it up. I used a Acronis disc image to restore that DAW to a point where it had the original Melodyne Plugin installed and licensed.

I put my Bass Track wave file on a usb stick and transferred it to the cobweb DAW and ran the track through Melodyne Plugin. The results brought back fond memories. I was able to center the pitch, AND correct pitch drift just as one should expect it to work.

I did find a bunch of timing discrepancies with the render I made with Melodyne Plugin, but the overall sound was pleasing, it was locked to tune, and it still sounded lively and natural.

I don't know if Autotune is any better. What I do know is that a bunch of my colleagues use it with their work, have never tried Melodyne, and look at me funny when I ask them if they have ever tried it.

I'm ready for some greener grass. :-)

Thanks for the info about the pricing!

All true,

I have read many complaints about Melodyne and the "high end".
Autotune is said to do this better (retain the high end)

One thing that we sometimes fail to realize...

While these plugins CAN be used on instruments, they are NOT
designed for such.  They are designed for VOCALS, which typically fall
into a narrower spectrum of the frequency range then Instruments,
which may have to do with this issue, but that's just speculation on
my part.

There is NOW Autotune for GUITAR...that is designed to handle this type
of situation.

Plugindiscounts.com

cheapest prices but you have to have an account to see pricing (free, just sign up).

Antares Autotune 7 native $247.00
Antares Autotune 7 TDM $398.00

Those are the only ones Plugindiscounts.com offers.  They don't offer Evo or the other stripped versions.

Thanks guys!

Now I have to figure out if I want just the AT7 or if I want the studio pack with AVOX4.

The talk box, vocoder type effect seems like it could keep me entertained for an afternoon.

Before spending $$$ on Auto-Tune, you may want to give this a try:

Not saying it's as good as the real thing, but you can't beat the price ...

Thanks Larry,
I was just there this morning looking at one of the other Melda items listed here in the past few days and although I looked specifically I must have missed the info about AAX.

I'm going to demo Auto Tune before I buy it and go from there.

Yes, I now see that if you click through the description page that doesn't mention it you can find mention of it on the system requirements page.

Thanks again!

here's a review from Pro Tools Expert:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TvONFY1EH0

It took 4 minutes 27 seconds to get to listening to the thing work.

It seems like an artifact smorgasbord... and the Pro Tools Expert seem to really dig the "poppy" factor.
