OK - hi everyone. Here's a new tune I wrote and recorded - "Slackin' It."

Hi all - I hope you are all doing well.

I just finished this blusey little tune and man I had a tough time with it. I have a hard time keeping an instrumental only tune intresting. I'm not sure if this one turned out to be intresting - but I'm satisfied with the way it ended up.

Thanks in advance for all of you that take a listen.

    great tune. kept me listening.
at times a bit too much presence on the guitar tones(for me)
the main nit would be the buzzing noise which appears 3 or 4 times...

Thanks mgh for taking a listen. Yea, I would agree - so, I remixed and I think I got out all of the buzzing - which was in the bass guitar track. I was using a new plug in on two of the tracks called "transient" that I think made the tune seem to have too much presence.

I hope this is a better mix.

Thanks again for taking a listen - and for the help.

    Hi Mark,
OOh, I love the swampy feel of this track, especially during the slow beginning and when the bass comes in and it and the guitar start playing together.
This might be an odd point to mention, but I really enjoyed the precise intonation of your bends. It's very cool and unusual to be able to deliver a loose, spontaneous feel while maintaining pristine pitch like that.
Thanks very much for the great listen!

Very nice...     For me, the first and third sections have an almost Sleep Walk feel to them in both your use of bends and general ambiance, while the middle section is just diggin' into the groove daddy-o.

The tune kept me interested. Nice mix of guitar tones. Nice changes.

Personal choice: would have loved some drums and bass in the "middle section".

I love the loose yet precise tone of the guitar.  I never quite get my guitar to sound that cool.  I thought it might be a little "buzzy" on certain notes, but I can easily imagine that to be the amp's speakers breaking up.  I must listen to this a few more times to let it soak in.  Congrats, Mark!

bapu - thanks man. I didn't do drums because - well, because I just didn't feel like it. But, there is a bass guitar in the middle section. I'm not much of a bass guitar player - so I just kind of follow the rhythm guitar - it may not stand out much.

Cian - thank you so much - I'm not the best guitarist - so I have to work on tasty - thanks again for taking a listen.

Hi Rikkie - how are you. I used two guitars - the "rhythm guitar" the one I used for the intro part was a Paul Reed Smith - I used a 335 for the lead. I played them both through a Pod XtLive. Thanks for the good thoughts.

Howdy Lynn. Yea, there is a bit of buzz on some notes - but the patch I use in my Pod XtLive (I don't use amps) is nice and clear at times - but it does have a bit of buzz to it at certain times. Thanks for taking the time.

Cakewalk forums should add a Like/Love hear button.

This is raw and REAL to listen to, that's what I am trying to go after, not polished stuff wasting away the artist which some call "TRANSIENTS" which are actual playing the instrument.

Outstanding number my friend.  The intro is very tastefully played and things are really enhanced and complemented when that second guitar kicks in.  Ya this is definitely the Blues but this is one of the most soulful Blues numbers that I have ever heard.  I liked the change ups that started around 1:27.  This definitely shows off your talent.  It has all of the classic Mark's clean sound, smooth pacing, and great phrasing.  I had to listen to this a bunch of times.

    Holy crap!!!

Great guitar tone(s) !!!!!!   Played very well. Love the mix of tempos. Felt like I was standing right next to the action.

Mix-wise, either one string is louder than the rest, or more likely, you dig in and hit some harder hits along the way, and those more energetic, louder notes pop out of the speakers and latch on to my amygdala. You might consider volume envelope editing those down just a tad?

    Either way, nice nice nice!

love the grungy attack at the beginning, and how you back off of it, and go back in....
    its all about that attitude
    very slow meter,
makes me want to try to write something this slow and backbeat....
this sounds a bit like a rambling demo, mark..
i hope you are going to develop it into a full blown band song,

this sounds like a Gus Van Zant soundtrack for a road movie out west of some sort.
i really love how you carve out this melody that has a truly 'slacking' it' vibe -

my only nit would be i think the guitars still need a bit more headroom there's some pushed noize buzz resonance still in some of the louder string swells/ vibratos - maybe tag a limiter on the track and pull the peaks down a tad -

aside from that this is a gem bro

Sure sounds like the title...very laid back and relaxed.  Nice warm tones.  I'd like to hear the tracks panned a little farther apart...I think that'd be nice.  I like the stops and the slides...those are cool.  Reminds me of a prelude to a Johnny Cash song...like I'm expecting him to start singing.  Totally sounds like a sound track to a TV show scene or movie.  Well done man.

Sounds great Mark!!!! WOW MAN!!! That gritty sound on this tune is AWESOME!!!!!
What kinda guitar are you using on this tune? Any particular personal specs?

I listened to the first mix and am listening to the second mix as I type this.

THIS IS AWESOME!!!! You played this cleanly, and that's so dang hard for anyone to do on any tune.

Very impressive!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!! Reminds me in my mind of what Chicago type blues might sound like, or City blues.
