OK, so I'm a slide guitar player now!
At least I'm trying. I wrote this blues tune and when I got done I didn't know what to do with it. So, I decided to try to learn to play slide guitar. I got a couple of lessons on-line, played around with it for a couple of days and then recorded Slim Pickins'. I'm certainly not a very good slide guitar player, but I enjoyed doing this and so I'm going to keep practicing and recording other tunes using slide. Thanks for taking a listen.

Tim, that's funny. One of the videos i watched was a guy teaching how Duane played. Maybe I better watch some more videos? Too funny. Thanks all for taking a listen.

This sounds like a slide performance around which everything else was glued IMO Mark. The drums are not fitting together w/the bass as they should, I only hear that snare every Nth hit. If I were king, of the Forrest? I would take the mix, W/O the slide, or any lead, and try to glue it together better, and then put the lead over it like the icing on the cake. It's not bad? But you can do better. Glad you're working on a new technique. And I don't mean to wee on anyone's leg, I'm just giving an honest opinion, I hope you take it that way?

Thanks James, everyone. Robbie, you are absolutely right. There are two problems I had with this tune. Normally after I have a tune written and figure out how I want the guitars to sound, I try to find a midi loop from my BFD sample library. I've always been able to find something that comes close. Once I lay down the guitar tracks to the loop I'm using. Doing it this way I can lock into the loop and it comes out sounding like the guitar and drums fit. I couldn't find a drum loop for this tune. So, I recorded the main guitar to a click track and after that was done I used a program I have to create a loop - it doesn't do a very good job - this was the best I could do. The second problem was with the drum fills - I had to create those from another program - again not good. Once I had the new drum track that I created I tried to sync it with the tracks I had created with the click track - it never sounded right - I just couldn't get them to sync properly. The third problem I had was with the bass track - normally Warren does all the bass tracks - I did this one - that was the problem - I'm just not a very good bass player. Anyway, thanks for taking a listen - i certainly appreciate the input - good constructive criticism is always appreciated. Take care.

I'm glad you took it in the spirit it was intended Mark. We all hear things differently? If something just sucks? I typically won't comment. However, that's never the case with your music or many others here I respect. And if I think it's awesome, I'll say that, but if I hear something I can give what I believe to be a valid constructive opinion on, I'll try to do that. It's not always the best advice? :-) But I try to be honest. Thanks for accepting that.

Hi Mark - now that is rot-gut Blues! As good as anything I have ever heard. If you can do that with a few on-line lessons and a two days practice, after a weeks practice I reckon Mississippi Willie Johnson will be throwing away his Harp and taking up origami!

As you may or may not know, slide guitar pretty much sets my teeth on edge. However, out of respect for your talents, I took a listen. Remarkably my head did not explode . You would seem to be a natural. I thought it was smokin hot myself.

Mark, I totally agree with the Band19's comments. It's a great tune, you played the slide well, and the tone is KILLER! But it is missing "glue" and a smidge of timing. Maybe it's the bass voice... I don't know... it sounds a little loose. Work on tightening up those drums and glue that bass into them... :-)

Aaah, the Blues. Yes indeed, you are a slide player now. Even your slide playing has that wonderful "CLEAN" phrasing. It has that old style feel and the rhythm (to me the most important part of the old style blues) carries it along nicely. Great stuff Mark.

You know even as a former pedal steel player I never was comfortable with slide guitar. Great first effort, or even 10th effort. Sounds very good. Nice clean slides! So I guess you are a slide player now! Daryl
