OK, what did I do wrong this time?

I've never liked the editing since 8.5 and almost every time I attempt some sort of copy /  paste I end up with hair pulling cursing and cussing!

The issue does not come up often because I am usually working with songs that the structure was pre determined and not in need of changing.
But every once in a while I need to move things around.
This song was a live recording ( no clock) singer, acoustic guitar track I later added bass, some simple midi drums and strings to.
A total of only 8 tracks.
So all I was trying to do was copy the middle turn around and glue it to the intro.
To me this should take 3 minutes,,, After 1 hour the song was a mess and I gave up and did it to the exported file in Wave lab ( in 3 minutes)
Why is it so hard to cut a section and paste it somewhere else??

So tell me what I'm doing wrong.
My method.
First I clrl A the whole song and dragged it right to make room for the new intro.
Then I trimmed off the original intro and deleted.
I used ctrl A to select all. And used split at the start and ending point of the turn around in the middle of the song.
To copy the part I want I select one track at a time holding down ctrl - got a be an easier way?  Sweeping didn't work for me
I right click / edit/ copy
Hit W to go to beginning and right click/ edit/ paste.  I had the " move over and make room" as my default paste option.
Now I drag this part until it was where I wanted it. The minute I touch the start of the rest of the song and let go,  it deletes the rest of the song???
The only thing that worked was dragging each of the tracks one at a time. ??
OK it worked and I now have a new intro.
I listen to the song and WTF, the middle part I copied  has obviously overlayed with?? now playing 2 parts and out of sync? The fade in I applied to the intro is also overlayed??

That's where I gave up, loaded the original version and exported.

The version I made in Wave lab is OK, but I would have liked to have blurred some of the notes across the cuts. Nobody will notice but me.

What would cause a copy and paste to end up in 2 places,,, and then obviously the dragging was also duplicated>> ??
I know that if I did what I just did in 8.5 that it would have worked,, what am I still not "getting" about the X way of doing things??

Thanks to all who answer in advance.. Johnny.

8.5 was probably the last time copying and pasting worked as advertised. Oh, maybe early X1.

read this thread. When you get to my post about "work rounds", you'll see how I deal with it.

Thanks Rick, I don't know how I missed that thread as I read just about everything here.
But I'm glad I'm not alone with this, to me, simple process, of re arranging a multi track song should not be this hard to do,, and it shouldn't cause a train wreak.

I've had copy/paste issues since X1.  It's never consistent though.  Sometimes is works, sometimes sit doesn't.  Very frustrating!
