OK who's still here from the old Cakewalk Newsgroup days?

Anyone here remember those days around 1999 or 2000 before they went with a formal forum like this?

    Pick me! Pick me!

And I miss other feeds/subscriptions for other pro audio groups.

Was sad when the old way was abandon.  I think we lost some community cohesiveness.

But I am old. And it appears being a twit is more important these days.

No sooner joined when it was abandoned for the forum. As I didn't upgrade past Cakewalk 8 in those days, I didn't join the forum until I bought Sonar 3 Producer in 2004.

I was there and yes it was fun. At first I didn't like the "new" forum. How things have changed.

It was easy to save threads. I still have some. LOL

Though the old news group could never handle the numbers we have today.

Hey Harvey, I was on there and I think I even remember you from those days. Name rings a bell and I'm pretty sure the guy I remember chatting with was from Arizona.  Might have even exchanged CDs at one point.

It continued long after that. I became a Cakewalk user in 2007 and I used to post there before it eventually disappeared.

What about the Compuserve forum in the early '90s? Greg H. posted on that all the time. It only took about a minute for a page to load.

I'm still here.  I forget what my handle was back then.

I remember ModBod from the old days.

That group got me into "rolling my own" - I built my first and second audio computers with their help.

I actually talked to Greg H. on a (corded) phone back in the 80's to help debug an issue with Cakewalk v1.0, does that count?

I still remember that, if you could whistle at 4,800 Hz, you could make your 110 BAUD modem sync up at 300 BAUD.
(And, ohhhh yes was that worth trying!)

I wasn't there - I was in the Logic version of those newsgroups. Just for fun, what was the typical problem or wishlist that we now have and take for granted from back then? I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of those topics if someone doesn't mind sharing a couple.

In 1999 I had sold off all my musical and recording equipment and was working two full-time day jobs. I was nearing 50 and had decided it was time to finally grow up.

Six years later my workaholic lifestyle caught up to me and rewarded me with a heart attack.

Forced to dial back my frenetic schedule for awhile, I figured I'd see what Cakewalk had been up to in the intervening years since Cakewalk for DOS 1.0. Google found this forum, leading me to choose SONAR as my entre back into recording.

I wonder how things would have gone if I'd been connected to the old CW newsgroup back then instead of Microsoft newsfeeds.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
