ONE OF MY FAV TUNES "JACK" (DENA, WILL, HERB AND WARREN)
Dena Porras (Venus) and Will Stratton wrote this country rocker. For a couple years I was fortunate enough to work with these two and was involved in some great musical projects. Dena is one of my favorite female vocalists and writers of all time and Will is a great writer, player and producer. If I'm not mistaken, Will produced this one from his tent in a war zone in Afghanistan. You gotta love it! Herb Hartley is the fiddler on this tune and he sure was fiddlin' around. I sure hope you enjoy it. (BTW, a new Pugtones tune is on the way soon.) "JACK" http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12962731 Dena (Venus)- Lyrics and lead vocalsWill- Music, guitars, percussion and production/engineeringHerb(Guitarhacker)- fiddlesWarren(evadianepug)- Bass, all background vocals

Thanks Warren... great song... I loved working on that song with them. Yes... all you said is true...very talented pair and fun to work with. This is the first time I've heard this song in it's finished form.

wow...this is a killer tune!! very powerful and loads of energy! I think the mix is very well done but as with all things....when I make a pizza I put what I like on it and so in that sense I think I would take a bit of grittiness of the main vox and add a light touch of verb....I'd pull up the bvox (which I really was digging)...the kit/bass seemed to be on the pocket as well and I would have liked to hear super Herbs fiddle centered and pulled up from for at least a few bars to get the full limelight....but again....we all cook to taste and this is really one great tune!! what a fun tune! it's a real basic arrangement that works. great performances that shine thru when i can hear them...... i have some mix issues, background vox are too light, lead vox is too hot, and the bass guitar needs some 'clarifyin' of some sort.... it's a little muddy, but not woofy...... a lot of the fiddle licks are just lost... my guess is, you'd have to do fader rides between when you want the lead and backup vox to be more upfront, and bring those down when you want the fiddle riffs to stand out.. or, panning just during those sections might help.... but whatever it is to dial in the mix, the song and performances are there. nice job.

The vox are definitely out front. I would like like to hear the fiddles a little better, they seem a bit in the background, but I don't know Jack. I don't know how to get my Jack on? However I have been known to... Well, I'll just self edit that one. Good job though. H-

What a cool tune! I'd like to hear the right-side fiddle a little more, left sounds okay. Vocals are great and really well done. Background vocals could use a little more shine, performances are great, but they sound a little too raw for BGV. Drums and bass are tight. Well done! Regards, Dan

Nice bass playing, love the bass tone. Also really like the lead vocalists voice. I do think the BGV need to come up just a little. Great tune, well played and produced.

I would love this more if I were in a pub listening to you guys play this. I've never been a country fan but have listened to live country bands and appreciate it much more live. Definitely excellent work. Everything is tight and in the pocket! I thought the fiddle could come up just a bit. A tad more on the right. Other than that, most excellent!

What a nice, breezy, entertaining tune. You are right Warren, there is a lot of talent involved in this number. I'm not a mix master nor mastering master (???) but it all sounds great to me. Excellent stuff!!!! I look forward to the next Pugtone's number!

Gosh, I was not expecting the voice to belt out like that. Not my cup of tea...country but that voice is fantastic. I can appreciate the playing too. It feels a little hyper compressed and I would like a little more top end but a fantastic job. Ben

What a great job on this tune. The performances are top notch, and the mix has enough bottom end to make any subwoofer happy. Thanks for drawing our attention to this, Warren.
