[OT] - Backup Software (Acronis)

Is anyone using Acronis as a backup program? I have Norton Ghost (pre-installed on my computer by Inta-Audio) but i cant get it to backup to an external USB drive. It seems from Acronis web page that it will do this, but i was just wondering if anyone has any experience of it here. My other thought was to get an internal drive to backup to but TBH i've no idea regarding SATA, PATA and all the options - plus if you got a virus surely it could affect all fixed internal drives.

Any help would be appreciated.

we use Acronis at work to create disk images for manufacturing

and moving my entire drive to a larger one when the original threatened to fail

pretty straightforward, but it's along process that requires some attention

    Thanks guys.

Goseba - is it a disk image (or system image including all internal disks?) or just a file back up that you get Acronis to create? The problem i have with Ghost is it appears to have problems during its DOS phase of the backup - i think its a USB thing. If Acronis can generate a bootable disk or system image to a USB drive i'll certainly get it.

Or am i misunderstanding the whole thing totally...............

Not totally sure what you mean, but this is how I have used it.

It will run from its CD. When installing a new hard drive to my laptop, I just copied the internal hard drive straight to a self powered USB drive with the new hard drive in.
I also back up the various partitions to a USB drive.

At the moment I have only done complete drive images, I haven't tried incremental back ups.

    Are you in the UK?

Hi - yeah i'm in the UK.

I just want to back up my system drive and audio drives to a single source that i could rebuild from in the event of dire S**t happening. I'm hoping acronis is the answer - i will download the demo and see what gives.
