OT: Burning decent cds
I can't seem to burn cds without getting stutters. I don't know whether it's the blanks or the burner. I have a pack of HP cds (don't know who actually makes them). I am using Win media player to burn. I don't know whether that error checks and burns redbook cds. Sonar has a burner built in; is that any better? ( just upgraded to x1). I have sound forge 7, but that seems to only burn track at once cd's, and good ol' Sony wants 225 clams to upgrade. Opinions? Is is likely the blanks or the burn program? Any advice?

Try to burn in slower bitrate.

Try CD Architect from Sony. It's easy as pie, and it won't break the bank.

Yea, you need a program that can run error checks and rener an image before burning it, as cd arch does

Another vote for CD Architect However, never under estimate the frustration level of a bad batch of blank media! I am finding that quality blank CD's are getting harder and harder to find - and getting more expensive each time I need them.
Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take! It's probably not the software. The drive may be out of alignment, or you might have just gotten a bad batch of disks. Do the CDs stutter when you play them back in your computer's drive, or just when you play them elsewhere? If they play OK in your computer but nowhere else, the drive is outa whack. Perhaps a friend will let you try burning on his machine using your CD-Rs to see if it's the disks themselves that are the problem. BTW, SONAR's burn feature is track-at-once, too.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

slower burn speeds can create jitter problems.

I agree with bitflipper. And, if not even the CD writer can read the CDs, throw it away. Some older CD players do not like certain CDs. I found that burning at constant speed rather than maximum speed works more reliably. I burn at 16X with a both my Plextor and my Philips writer. Wilko

Thanks: Since the stuttering is erratic, I assume that it has to be the media, not the burn. That is, sometimes I get read errors, sometimes I don't, sometimes a track will stutter, sometimes not. However, I assume that using CD architect or something along those lines, that can error check, would help. Are the facilities of CD architect built into sound forge? Thanks
