OT: Canadians & Global Warming
Study: Canadian Beer Drinkers Threaten Planet This raises so many questions. 1. Has anyone done a study to see if using the Sonah is threatening our planet? 2. Do Canadians really need a fridge for food and beverages other than beer? 3. Are Molsen & Labatts the only beers sold in Canada? 4. Is there anything at all that humans do that is not going to destroy our planet? The list of things "threatening" the planet just keeps getting crazier and crazier. Disclaimer: I have nothing against Canadians or Canada. And if they want to keep thier old fridge for their Molsen stash that's fine by me. Unreal.

Kokonee is a decent bottled Canadian beer. Vancouver alone has several microbreweries, Yaletown perhaps being the best. (I'm happy to debate the point with anyone willing to send samples.) Anyone have any tips about the best microphone to use for recording my beer?

What a load o' crap, eh? If Canadians are threatening the planet - by way of refrigeration(!) of all things - then surely those denizens of Phoenix and Las Vegas will be sending us hurtling into the sun!

While the article might be slightly toungue-in-cheek, it is a real problem ... but no just a Canadian one. Anyone who has an older, secondary fridge should think about either tossing it or getting a newer, more energy efficient model. Do the world a favor.

Does it? I don't know as I live nowhere near Canada. Point is, though is that having a second fridge is a total waste of power, especially if it is an older model ... Canadian or not.

i'm in chicago- atm it's plenty cold enough to simply leave the beer outside, so i assume canadians can do the same... however: if any canadians have too much beer in an inefficient fridge, i'd be happy to take it off your hands-and i won't even charge much....

Question is. Is it a waste if the fridge in question has stuff in it such as beer? Just wondering.

We're in the 50's finally. Wont last long though, I'm pretty sure it'll be in the 60's again by the weekend. We usally get a week of winter sometime in january. (What does snow look like again?)

I don't see how anyone can live in Tennessee. First, you point out that it's impossible to record, for all the a/c noise. Now, I'm realizing that all Summer long, it's going to be too hot to brew any decent ale in a basement. But, in Winter, it won't be cold enough to lager.

Here and up north a fridge is used to keep things from freezing! John glad to see that you have pointed out that fridges have many uses. I live in Cape Town, South Africa, for about 4 months a year - down there fridges are used to stop your beer being stolen (that's assuming you manged to get your beer back home from the bottle store without being car jacked/mugged etc). The only problem then is, that if you have a small fridge, you need to buy a bigger one to put the smaller one into, to stop that being stolen - then a good idea is to chain both to something substantial. So without your second / third fridge, in Cape Town you would soon find that your Castle Beer was:- 1) Missing presumed stolen in action (or you might just have drunk too much of it the night before and forgotten - but its a great excuse to claim it was stolen anyway!) 2) It was warm - and once Castle beer gets warm, you really would be better off having it stolen! Of course the real question should be, if we all stopped buying fridges, the world would be saved we are told but would it be a better place, as it might be that no one would have jobs as 1) All the people who make fridges would be out of work 2) Beer sales would plummet (who can actually drink warm beer????) and all these people would actually be out of work as well 3) There would be mass hysteria etc as people would be in really foul tempers as they had no beer to drink Perhaps the real answer is that some of our governments might forgo some of their shining new military toys - I expect then we could all have ten fridges each and be drunk all day and night on cooooooooool beer!

Fox reported that a study was done. BTW The study took ten years and 20 billion dollars to do. The principle investigator is reported to now own five fridges along side his SUVs.

While we're off-topic, this story caught my eye: We are set on a course of 'planet saving' madness The scare over global warming, and our politicians' response to it, is becoming ever more bizarre. On the one hand we have the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change coming up with yet another of its notoriously politicised reports, hyping up the scare by claiming that world surface temperatures have been higher in 11 of the past 12 years (1995-2006) than ever previously recorded. This carefully ignores the latest US satellite figures showing temperatures having fallen since 1998, declining in 2007 to a 1983 level - not to mention the newly revised figures for US surface temperatures showing that the 1930s had four of the 10 warmest years of the past century, with the hottest year of all being not 1998, as was previously claimed, but 1934. -Fin Hey, somebody grab me a beer.
