OT: Could we up the PM inbox limit please? *SOLVED* Thanks, Ryan.

All the other hoopla aside it would be real nice if someone could go into the forum software code and see if there is an option to up the PM limit. 25 is painfully low when you have a collection of info and links from the fine forum users and Cake staff. It wouldn't be so bad if the archive feature actually cleared some space but alas it does not (or at least I can't figure it out).

Pretty please? If not are there any work arounds?

Also... I'm back. Hope you've all been well.

Hmm... I was actually looking at posts from yesterday. Darn this geriatric "up at dawn" schedule of mine. lol

welcome back.
I believe you can save them on your PC with the "Save As" function in your browser.

Hi, scook. Thanks. I'll look into. Guess they could go into my big folder of music stuff. Still it'd be nice to keep them on site. The CH guys managed to get them to up the max daily post limit (in theory) so hoping this is just a matter of poking at some menus. Hope life is good on your end. Cheers.

I prefer to keep things on my machines. I have more control of what happens to the data. Same with installers, registration info, etc. Not sure if the max post limit change ever went into effect. Even if it did, there are some odd things about the stats kept on this site.

I'm just having a hard time visualizing how I'd keep it all synced and organized. Not quite sure how FF will deal with reloading deleted PMs too or what kind of formatting the saved offline pages/headers will have. Meh... probably won't happen but doesn't hurt to ask. I wonder what the admin PM limits are.

Yeah, that's not working very well. If I save the page and delete a message it opens the altered page. Saving it as text is a pile of garbled code. Oh well. I'll figure something out. Just wish the onsite archive function opened up those spots. Maybe I'll send a PM to them directly and see what's up... but their reply might push me over the limit. lol

Why not just cut and paste the messages into a text file on your desktop? Quick and easy.

Well then I lose the headers and hyperlinks but that is probably what I'll have to do.

You can preserve links if you
use IE
quote the message
open the message in the full editor
use the editor copy to clipboard function
paste into wordpad

(Although I had no problem using FF "Save as" and would rather clean up html than mess with IE).

Yeah, IE is donkey berries. I'm about to start screwing around with Linux (Ubuntu) on one of my ancient laptops so maybe there'll be something in there to deal with this. I used to be able to get FF to save forum webpages that eventually got deleted but I forget how. May not work for this anyway.

hmm... maybe it was the raw html and I just loaded it back into FF without redirecting to the URL.

25 seemed a bit silly. I bumped it up to 100.

You still may want to figure out a way to store "keepers" locally or, as is always the case, when you need the info most, it will be unavailable.

I have a bunch of sorting to do across all my systems due to the massive amounts of notes and bookmarks I've created in the past year and a half. Swiping crucial info from my messages will be part of it but now I can let it wait until I'm ready while I refine my personal archiving system.

If you have Microsoft Office, One Note is great for this sort of thing. You can organize website snippets and text and links and images into notebooks. It's great for keeping track of things like this.
