OT: Country Music CD's

Hi Gang,

Our nephew broke his neck a few weeks ago in a skiing accident. He is still in rough shape at this point. It is his birthday next week and we know he likes country music. I'd like to get him a couple of CD's but I don't really follow country music. I believe he likes all kinds of country. He is 22 years old. I know my younger neice likes Brad Paisley. Is that a good choice?

Thanks.

Yes, unfortunately he is quadriplegic at this point. He also has a trach and is on a ventilor.

We don't know who his favourite artists are, so I'm just trying to get a selection.

I think we are going to get him am MP3 player, so he can have hours of music instead of having someone change the CD every 1/2 hour or so.

I'm also going to do a set of "feel good" songs, so I could use some suggestions there too!

    Thanks for your concern Janet.

Nutty -- so sorry to hear of your nephew's injury. It's great that you're looking for music he likes - better to ask him to identify some, if at all possible.... country especially, has branched off into so many venues. And if it was me lyin' there... It would be torture to have to listen to stuff I DIDN'T like hour after hour......! Find out at least if he prefers the old rednecks like Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, or more contemporary like Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, or some of the easy listening ladies like Shania Twaine, Taylor Swift.... a gazllion others. God speed his healing and I'll be praying for his complete recovery.

    Thanks JD,

Good suggestions. I'm just going to get a little of everything, but focusing more on the more current artists.

    The prayers are deeply appreciated.

    We are very optomistic.

    Thanks again,

Wow - that's really tragic. Poor kid! Prayers for him and family!

Sorry I can't help you much on the CW music because I don't listen to it either, but for some "feel good" stuff, you can look into some Christian artists like Mercy Me, Casting Crowns, Steven Curtis Chapman, Jeremy Camp. those won't really sound "country" but they have some great uplifting songs. I'll try to think of some more Christian performers who might have a more country sound and let you know if I come up with any.

    God bless!

    Thanks Beagle,

I will look for those artists. Robert (nephew) is very spiritual and it is certainly prayers that have helped to get him this far.

Thanks for the prayers as well.

I found some of the music (all mentioned) and they are really good. I'm going to make his Mom a CD as well!

I wish I could give you some advice Nutty but I wouldn't know where to start. I can only wish you and your family the best and let you know that I will be saying a prayer for you and your family and your nephew, I honestally do pray every night for my family members and myself and I will be doing the same for yours also. God Bless your Nephew and you and your family. This really bothers me to hear of someone so young having to deal with a situation like this and you and your family members.

I don't know if he would like this but there is a song that is Alternative, I know you asked for country but there is a new song by a band called Seether and the song is called "Rise Above This", it's been a song that I have been listening to here lately but it is insprational if you listen to words. I hope I'm not telling you wrong on the song. Country is too depressing and that's why I stopped listening to it a long time ago even though I have a history with it, the new country isn't even country at all and when it is it's someone moaning about something bad.

I appologize if I am saying the wrong things, but I don't have the words to say except "I WISH YOU ALL THE BEST AND I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU AND YOUR NEPHEW AND YOUR FAMILY". God bless and best wishes

    Bobby

Thanks Bobby, that means a lot to me.

I had a listen to the song and I can certainly see where you are coming from. Now I have a new song to crank up when I'm having a rough day. "If Everyone Cared" by Nickleback was my lastest song in that field.

I'm not sure about the nephew though. I'll have to get a feel for where he is when we see him. He was out West (Calgary) and just recently got transferred back to Ontario (Canada), so we haven't seen him yet. It's about a 3 hour drive, so that's not too bad.

Again, I really appreciate the suggestion and the prayers.

Thoughts and prayers from Scotland here. Hearing things like that certainly puts my niggles and problems into perspective, poor kid.

I don't really know much about country music except for the mainstreamers - my wife is actually seeing Dolly Parton on tour in June lol.

I find some good old Bluegrass to be really uplifting sometimes - I find it happy music. Also some old jug band stuff.

    Try to keep spirits up.

What hospital are they trasnferring him to?

They transferred him to Peterborough, Ontario. They are hoping to get him to a rehab facillity in Kingston. However, because he is on the ventilator, his options are restricted. Not all rehab facilities are equipped for ventilator patients. We are hoping something will come up soon. He is anxious to start some extensive therapy, but they have to work on the lungs so he can breathe on his own. Peterborourgh wasn't the best choice; however, they are the only hospital in Southern Ontario that would take him. This is much better for his Mom and family. Most of the family are only 30-45 minutes away. We are 3 hours away. He would be much closer for us in Kingston.

Nutty, I know you have been looking for information on the internet for doctors and things like that, "HOW CAN I HELP"?

I just wanted to tell you something that happened to my family, MY MOM had to be sent to the hospital in an ambulance a few months ago because she had a serious pain in her eye, at first they thought it was a stroke or something worse, she's 64 now. The so called experts at the hospital recommended her to their SO CALLED specialist, this guy said she would be blind in that eye for life. "THANK GOD" one of her best friends reccomended her to this eye specialist that went out of his way and opened his place of business like 4 hours after the place closed at NINE O'clock at night just to see her and he figured out what was wrong with her. He was what I call a TRUE DOCTOR because when he does any kinda surgery he prays over people who ask for help before he does the surgery and has been around the world treating everyone. IMO He's the best doctor on the planet for eye problems all together. To make a long story short my MOM is fine now and whatever the doctors tell you don't give up whatever you do! I know you want but I thought I would let ya know where I am coming from. I thought I was gonna lose my MOM and it almost destroyed me.

I wish you and especially your nephew the best!!!!!!! DON'T GIVE UP!!!! If I can help on internet research on finding Doctors or anything like that let me know, I am no expert but I will do my best because that's all I can do and would like to help.

    Best wishes, and God Bless

    Bobby

That's very nice of you Janet. They did try to get him to Toronto (which is close to Kitchener), but they were way too busy.

Bobby, thanks for sharing your story. I'm glad things worked out for you and your mom. I've been on disability myself the past 2 1/2 years, so I know exactly what you mean. If it wasn't for my husband pushing them and challenging them, things would have been quite different for me too.

We are looking for places in Southern to Eastern Ontario, specifically anything between Toronto and Kingston Ontario. Also any success stories on C2 fractures would help. Apparently, with these types of fractures it is hard for patients to get off ventilators. That's his biggest challenge right now. You could always email me at nuttysplaceATgmailDOTcom

Again, thanks so much for your concern and best wishes. We are just heading out now to go and see him.

Have a good weekend everyone. It's a long weeked for us (Victoria Day)....yeah!!!!
