OT: Even For The CH

I know there are other forums on the web to ask such a question but I know the community here and trust their thoughts and opinions so here it goes.

I'm not real happy with the way Cakewalk has be doing things over the past few years with adding fluff and glitter but not addressing some of the weaker points to the important features of a recording program. They add a feature, then in a way it gets abandoned and left half-assed and move on to a new 'beatsnapstepflangermabob' which never works correctly and they're off to another new toy.

But I digress,
I've decided to move to Pro Tools 9 and give that a go.
My question is, does anyone here also have a PT9 rig they use and what have your experiences been with using a non Avid/Digidesign interface?
I have asked a few other forum members and for the most part have gotten positive feedback.
So if you also have a PT rig, what interface are you using and has it been treating you well?

For the record, I'll still be using Sonar (8.5) and keeping an eye on Cake because I do like the program and hope that someday they'll get back to the core features that need some work.
Maybe they could try putting out different versions, like one for those who do mostly audio, one for more MIDI based operations, one for loops, toys, bells and whistles and one more DJ based.

Just a thought.

Thanks for any and all input.

ok, maybe a little inappropriate for the Cake forums but I know that quite a few people use different platforms to record with so I thought I'd give it a shot.
Sorry if I offended anyone or overstepped my bounds. That was not my intention.

Mine's working just fine - what are your system specs?

    Check your PM's.

I'm running a TI-99 using the build in mic.
I've gotten my latency pretty low (about 4 1/2 min round trip) but seeing as I'm a drummer and my timing and feel are somewhat non-existent it works fine for me.
I was going to upgrade to a 13" color TV (on a 10" B&W now) so I'm hoping that'll help speed things up a little.

And where do I find the PM's setting? Is it in my sound blaster control panel or will I find it by mucking about in my registry and changing random settings?

I have the Pro tools 7.3 demo that came with my M-Audio card runs really great, if I wasn't already so familiar with Cake products, I might have went for the upgrade. If the new version runs on any interface you shouldn't need to worry about it, but you might want to get an M Audio if your looking for a new interface to ensure it's compatible.

I don't even know if you're serious any more.
    'beatsnapstepflangermabob'
You clearly don't understand some things. I don't either, I don't know the workings of every element of Sonar and it's instruments and effects. I've made huge progress, in two areas. How they all work and don't work together and what elements of the OS and the computer build don't work with. Rather a vague statement I know, but it boils down to this. If you don't know all of that yet, what makes you think a new DAW host will be any easier? You're starting the learning curve all over again. Old habits, new software, different problems with integration in the PC you have, new interfaces, where does it level out?

There is no delay compensation for 3rd party sound devices in Protools 9. That should keep you busy trying to track and record. Only M-Audio and HD systems have it for that platform.

    Thanks Guys.
I was considering an M-Audio interface. I don't need to go nuts yet so a cheaper end one will be just fine.

Crg, I do understand and agree with you.
But it's not about being easier to use, I do 95% audio and I feel PT is more 'audio friendly'. If I need to do MIDI work I'll open Sonar.

    BOUY!

I to wish Sonar would have different versions, one with no beat making stuff.   I use Sonar as a glorified tape machine and it has served me well.  Still use 7PE today for muilt-track recording.
But I use Samplitude for mixing, editing and mastering.   If your wanting to try some other Daw software, download Swamp11 demo.  You can use it for 30 days until you have to buy a license.
Swamp and Sonar works great together.
