OT - Fellow Firefox users--our forum text formatting is kablooey!

I know this post will need to be moved to a different Forum, but I'm hoping for as many people as possible to see this. Ever since upgrading to Firefox 6 (now 6.0.1),text formatting at the Cakewalk Forums has been broken. I can't include a quote, and simple things like paragraph breaks aren't available. All I can do is write in blocks of un-formatted text. Fellow Firefox users - have you found a solution? RB

Yep, it's been that way since Firefox 6 was released a week or so ago. There were some other topics about it before.

Solution is to go back to Firefox 5 or use a different browser like Google Chrome (which works fine).

The only solution is to visit HERE and download and older version. I'm on V5 which works ok. Bizarrely though that is now unsupported. I think V3.6 is the most recent version prior to 6 that is still supported.

The problem is the forum software.

There is a newer version that fixed the bugs with FF but CW chose not to install the updates.

A new version of the forum software is due out shortly.

CW has already commented that something is in the works with the forum, but they did not elaborate as to what their plans are.

Thanks for the replies, Scott, FBB and Kevo - I hadn't noticed the previous posts about this. Well darn it - I love me Firefox. I have it all tricked out the way I want. Going back to a previous version doesn't appeal - updating security is one of the main reasons Firefox gets updated.-- OOOooh man, I have to use >shudder< Chrome?--I guess that's the solution I'll have to use until this is fixed. I'll fire up Chrome just for coming here, see how that goes. Thanks again - Randy, un-formatted in Oregon

Randy. Version 3.6 is still supported & patched for security updates, so that'll be safe & of course V5 is as safe as it was before the upgrade.

Hey, lookee me - all formatted in this reply.  I'm in Chrome right now.  It might work to go back and forth between the two browsers.  Hmmm.  Maybe.

Thanks for the new reply, FBB.  If I went backwards to v5 - I suppose all the new tweaks I've done in v6 will disappear?  Yeah--I think so.  Hmmm.  Maybe.

I don't know about the tweaks. I upgraded and then as soon as I realised the problem I went back to 5, but I had to download it and do a full install because the latest install I had on disk was V4.

All my add ons were still there but I didn't change anything in 6 so don't know whether they'll stick or not.

At least now I know what has happened. I went up and down my firefox plugins to find out what prevented formatting, of course without success. As I strictly refuse to use Chrome (it's from my favorite data sampling company Google), I have to find another alternative. And yes, the forum software should be updated fast.

Thanks, FBB - I got in a mood to customize Firefox more than I have before, all in the last few days.  I'd rather not have to re-do all that, even though it wouldn't be a huge task.   But downgrading would probably put me back to square one.

I'm satisfied for now with the solution suggested by Scott.  I have Firefox and Chrome pinned to the task bar right next to each other - It's not a problem to be signed in on both of them, and when there's something here at Cakewalk I want to reply to, I just jump to Chrome.  It's not as cumbersome as I thought it might be.

Jim - too late for me to hide from the Google Machine - I have an ad campaign with them, I use Gmail - I'm a goner!

    Thanks, guys.

Well, it actually proves that I didn't do a search first - I admit it.  I visit here so often, but hadn't noticed the topic somehow.  My bad.

Agree on the FireFox problems. I also cannot use Chrome anymore to login (won't accept the captcha). So I'm now using Opera for this forum only, although I have to say that I should use it more often cause the latest version is fast and works quite well.

I'm a very active member of the Cakewalk/Sonar forums which are powered by
ASPPlayground.  I keep my browser, Firefox, up to date.  With the most
recent upgrades of Firefox (6 and 6.0.1) text formatting no longer works at
the forums.  Quoting from a post isn't available, and basic text formatting,
such as paragraph breaks, isn't available.  I want to make sure you're aware
that your software seems out dated perhaps - at the least, it's no longer
functioning properly with the current version of Firefox, the most-used
browser next to IE (which I won't touch anymore.)

Right on.  This is working fine for me to have both Firefox and Chrome in my task bar next to each other, signed in to both, using Chrome just for posting here.  It's a functioning work around.

As per the reply from Samuel Chou in post #17, a fully functioning update to the forum software is available to Cakewalk if they'd just take the time to apply it.  The current ASPPlayground software is compatible with all browsers, and it's a free upgrade.

Bitflipper: so you know what I'm talking about. ;-) By the way, it's very well possible to prevent Google from getting as much information as they would like to gather, and I use some of these possibilities. They are just a bunch of helpful data thieves from my view: they offer help just to get what they want: data and money, and MUCH of both, until nobody gets around them any more and they can misuse whatever they want: from book author rights up to personal data.

    Randy,

FYI - version 5 of FF works fine here.  i rolled back and it went without a hitch.

Cool, Billy - I get paranoid when Firefox keeps updating because of security issues - they make me worry that I'll suddenly be in the toilet if I don't upgrade.  I get skeeeeered, and so am reluctant to go back to a previous version.

Also, I fancied up this last upgrade with plug-ins and extensions - that would all be gone if I rolled back, I think it'd have to be?

Meanwhile, having Chrome open for this Forum really isn't a hassle.

Obviously though, Cakewalk needs to get the free update to the forum software - They don't seem to understand yet how they've messed so many people up.

    Thanks for the warning Randy!
I almost pushed the upgrade button today (just before coming to the forum).
Although I don't make a lot of posts, that would've been bad if I couldn't post properly.
