OT: Garritan Group Buy

Here we go again, yet another reason to make my credit card company happy:

http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49704

Garritan Personal Orchestra
Jazz and Big Band
Stradivari Solo Violin

Potential to get down to $139 (each, not for the bundle)

I've been looking for and excuse to get Jazz and Big Band and I guess this is it...

I already have GPO, but if the price gets down that far I would have a hard time not getting JABB and the Strad. Heard a lot of good things about the Strad...

If you haven't you should check the demoes at http://www.garritan.com/stradivari.html for Strad. Hard to believe you can do that with a virtual instrument (sample set?) I wish I could afford both but have more immediate use for JABB.

I signed up for JABB. I've been wanting it for a while now. $139 is a great deal! Last years GB sold over 1300 units! This will most certainly reach the lowest price point. Get on board.

    I'll add my 2 cents:

I have GPO and JABB already, and both are worth far more than their retail prices. For $139, there is no way I can pass up the Garritan Strad.

If you don't already know, the Garritan Solo Stradivari is the most sublime virtual instrument ever.

General question on the GPO: I can see that it ships with an integrated Kontakt player, but when you get the library, do you also have access to individual .wav files? The reason I ask is that I've recently purchased Dimension Pro, which includes a small Garritan selection of instruments, and I'd like to incorporate GPO.

    Why?

Well, because DimPro also has the ability to utilize tuning files to create microtonal music, and I would love to expand the orchestral palette already available there with the full GPO. I know, I know, not many people need or use this, but it would be a really big plus for me.

    So, anyone know?

    Cheers,

    LOL Hey Paul! I'm in!!

I got in on the GPO group buy, so I have to pick between the other two. I agree this should hit the lowest price easily! I can't resist.

From what I know about Kontakt / Kompakt players is that they are able to protect the sample material from being utilized in other sample-players or audio applications by some sort of encryption of the audio material. This is exactely the reaon why the Kontakt / Kompakt engine has become the quasi-standard in the industry.
From that, I think it will be not possible to use the audio material in a different sample player like dimension pro, except there is a work-around for it.

    best regards

I recommend you don't pick. Get Strad and JABB... it's virtually a 2 for 1 offer.

Thanks, David, that is what I was afraid of. Still a very good price for a good product, I'll mull it over for a little while. And I appreciate the info.

    http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49105

The last thread is about the pending Kontakt 2 Player release... Kontakt itself supports microtonal scales since v1.x (see first thread). In the second thread Gary Garritan said: "We'll see what we can do to provide the tools to make microtuning possible.". The question is: will the upcoming K2 player expose microtuning for Garritan libs?

You might just post the question directly in the Garritan forum... it might get answered. But like you say, it's still a very good price in any case.

    Keith,

Thanks, that's interesting about the Kontakt 2 Player. I know people who are using Kontakt 2 itself, which has implemented microtuning through it's scripting process. I've thought about picking it up, but haven't seen a huge compelling reason for that large a purchase. I also have some qualms about NI's sales/copy protection avenues, but that is a topic for another time.

I'll check out the threads and maybe ask over at Garritan.

    Cheers,

I know you can't resist a good GB, Dale.

I'm tempted by the Strad but I really need JABB. I wish I could get both.

To throw another wrench into your deliberation... owners of Kontakt-based libs such as GPO can "crossgrade" to the full Kontakt sampler for $270 (and more like $250 for an online retiler).... certainly cheaper than the full price.
