OT: Guitar Rig 3 Demo (30 min?)

On the Native Instruments page, under the Guitar Rig 3 demo download page it says:

> Complete function range with all presets
> Session runs for 30 minutes only
> Includes full manual
> Save and Total Recall functions disabled

Can this be right? How can someone effectively evaluate a plug with that many amps, effects, etc... in 30 minutes?

Has anyone done this? Did you make a list beforehand of exactly what you were going to do? (maybe do some jumping jacks to make sure you were properly warmed up?)

I wonder if they have an option where they send over a couple of armed guards that hold you at gunpoint, but give you two or three hours - seems like that would be a better deal.

Again, anyone done this?

Okay, so they meant to say 'sessions run for 30 minutes only'.

Thanks. I knew that couldn't be right.

How do you think it compares to Amplitube2?

How do you think it compares to Amplitube2?

I have both. In my opinion, Amplitube has a couple really stunning models; the 50 watt EL34 power amp and the Marshall 4x10 cabinet. A Marshall 50 watt Jubilee head through a 4x10 was my live amp for a couple years; they nailed the power amp and cabinet as far as response and sound goes. Amplitube's harmonizer and pitch shifter also is much better than GR's Whammy Pedal emulation when it comes to accuracy of the shifting. I also like that in Amplitube, you can mix and match preamps, EQs and power amps. I have a couple really nice sounding hybrid amps made that way

Besides those exceptions, I prefer GR for the most part. The effects are much better all in all, and the clean sounding amps have more presence. The spring reverb in GR's actually usable; the one in Amplitube at anything over 2 or so is for the most part unusable. The matched cabinets in GR3 are wonderful, and the new amp models are fairly good (the HiWatt emulation with a little tweaking sounds really close to the old 100 watt HiWatt head I used to own). YMMV, of course.
