OT - Is there a place to download free instrumental music out there?

Hi all.

Since I'm too busy lately to create any original instrumental music, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a place where you can legally access mp3's of instrumental (easy-listening type) music that can be used in a video production.

I would 'sell' the video montage with this 'downloaded music' to the 'wedding couple' and/or their family members who'd be interested. So the music has gotta be 'free' free....if you get my meaning.

I appreciate your thoughts and direction on this matter,

Thanks!

Martin

    Hi Martin,

There are various music libraries available, but I would recommend getting something like Cinescore from Sony...

    * Sony Cinescore Professional Soundtrack Creation Software

This software allows you to input various parameters (like song style, song lenth, etc.) and automatically create a soundtrack for you. However, instead of being limited to a static library, Cinescore lets you tweak the composing algorithm so that you can come up with something that still sounds like the selected style but is unique to your needs. There are also various theme packs available... even one for weddings.

You gotta love it. Give me something free so I can resell it. Composers will be lining up around the block.

I think people are actually paying to get rid of "We've only just begun" by the carpenters.

By comparison "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" is not a very hot seller for weddings and can be had for a song.

    Thank you Scott, as always.

Found some sources of 'elevator' music....royalty free. Some pretty sad musicians out there who have no need to sell their stuff, I guess?

Some people have no shame... they'll put out any kind of crap.

Of course if you put some music on your videos that people would recognize, you might be able to command more money for your product. An ASCAP license isn't that expensive and gives you access to thousands of songs that you could use legally and you would be supporting the music industry.

    Hi Martin,

No problem. I think you'll find that Cinescore fits your needs for those types of projects.

You could also try Band-In-A-Box, but it's not exactly the same thing...

In addition to Sony Cinescore, there's another soundtrack composition app on the market...

    * SmartSound SonicFire Soundtrack AutoComposition Software

This one does something similar to Cinescore, allowing you to choose a style, adjust some parameters, and automatically create a soundtrack to fit your video needs. But I haven't actually tried this one...

There's also this one, but haven't tried it either...

    * Adobe Soundbooth AutoComposition Software

True, but the OP said he wanted something free. Cinescore is $179.

    Hi Scott! (and everybody!)

I'm just browsing around looking at different DAW assisted audio scoring softwares like CINESCORE, ADOBE SOUNDBOOTH, SONIC FIRE and they seems like a very versatile and dynamic music library solutions that can be both used as final soundtrack tools as well as "idea generators" for semi-pro composers as myself...

I'm very much interested by these products' features that use MARKERS as "hints" for the soft to calculate tempos changes between sections AND by their "intensity" track (some kind of a "velocity filter" that applies to the whole composition...).

My question: I'm wondering if any of these products have some kind of "export markers" and "export conductor layer" as MIDI data to be used in another soft like SONAR? That would be another way to customize at a deeper level a soundtrack by adding our own custom audio elements within SONAR for instance... well, the export velocity track is secondary I guess, but to have a way to import the TEMPO map of a cinescore project could be nice.

I'll have to look at the demo I guess. Meanwhile, anybody have some info about that?

    Cheers.

JAMMER Pro is another application along the lines of Band in a Box.
