OT... NI's Intakt sux !
Just got the "try before buy" latest version the other day. Having worked with all kinds of loop choppers and the likes I got rid of it the same day. I mean the UI is so small I had to get my binoculars to see anything I was doing. The stretch algorithms are worthless and the transient detection's not worth mentioning at all. I had to realign every hit point myself! The controls for syncing etc. are carefully hidden by the developers just to annoy anyone trying to get to grips with it. I just kept forgetting what does what and where to find it all the time. Now I did not have TFM but I have to say that this thing is absolutely not userfriendly at all. P5v2 for me was so easy to come to grips with from the beginning that I have barely looked into the manual till this day. (Same goes for DimPro, Velocity, Triangle, Psyn and I bet Rapture too.) That was my rant for today Cheers, NaughT.

fortunately not all NI's products are this woeful and most have been upgraded to a more usable level when i 1st picked up the NI Komplete package, I spent a lot of time with Intakt as I was intrigued by the possibilities then i came to try and use it in a project, and it proved very unwieldy i've tried a number of times after that, but i've never managed to get it into a project great concept, pretty lousy implementation, needs an upgrade badly

The benefits of "try before buy" U get to tryout the complete package. If it's any good I'll buy. If not....... delete delete delete, I'm an honest supporter of software developers.

Benny, I havent found a sampler that can do what Intakt does and I am sure I havent scratched the surface. I guess it depends what you use it for but I love it. The zoom interface and workspace is a little cluttered and it does take some getting used to but I really like it. I guess one man's trash is another's treasure! 2 cents later.

Can't argue with that I think it's great that it works for you. I have Battery, Fm7,and Pro 53 and enjoy messing about with them alot. Just like Jan said that not all NI's products are this woeful. Intakt's interface on the whole and the timestretching/beatslicer are just not the quality I'm used to. With kind regards, NaughT.

To me the interface is horribly implemented on Intakt. Usually for me, bad interface = bad product. There's always version 2. For looping I am using Recycle + Rxp soft synth included in Sonar 5 and I get great results. There are issues with that but at least I can get the basic idea of the loop down and mangle the loop fairly easy. Battery 1 had a not so great interface, but Battery 2 changed all of that (but I guess a drum sampler interface is a lot more easier to design than a loop interface). Kontakt also has a great interface for creating/editing samples while still maintaining enough flexibility to allow you to go as deep as you want to go.

The best VST slicer I tried was Phatmatik Pro...you can still get it I think, although it seems to have become abandonware.

i have beat quantizer relatively cheaply through owning FLStudio it's full-featured, but a bit tedious to use Live Slice looks like more fun you know, there's a possibility that even if P5 has audio editing capabilities of Sonar or Abletone Live, there's no reason to think it will be able to do what a third-party tool like this might do please let us know what you think of the learning curve and ease of use

Well it's like the great underused (by many) Cyclone. Except that u set the slice points in Liveslice. It has also great midi remote control options. Fairly low learning curve, ofcourse for the more experienced beatslicers among us will grasp the concept within 2 minutes or so. i didnt need to look in the manual at all. it's all very familiar. AND IT'S DAMN CHEAP!!! cheers, NaughT.

imo cyclone is underused because it doesn't play nice with home grown loops. it's too tedious to make a loop, set slice points and/or edit in zero crossings to keep it from popping/clicking when the slices are rearranged in cyclone.

And thats whats so cool about LiveSlice... U can with that one. has anyone tried the demo yet? it;s unlimited use but it doesnt save your setup and files. doesnt dropout audio too. no need for a H2O version there...

Just a suggestion: you might like to check out the upcoming version of BeatCreator as it will support sfz export in the next version. Very cool for use with RXP. Plus, it's editing capabilities are ahead of ReCycle e.g. better horizontal zoom (32:1 zoom ratio = can't live with out this for precision placement of slice markers to avoid clicks).

Ok, so I wanted to check Beatcreator out, downloaded the demo and it appears that the demo zip file is corrupt.

i d/l'ed the Live Slice demo it seems to have the advantage of of working as a vsti with note triggers and such but tbh i found the BeatSlice/Quantizer interface a little easier and more flexible to use LiveSlice has some stretching/granular features that aren't in BeatS/Q guess i'll stick with what i know

I would certainly buy Beatcreator, but I already have Recycle 2.1. Liveslice I just cant resist because of the pricing.( and the useability ofcourse) Sticking with what you know isnt such a bad option. What worked for me earlier still works for me now. I often go back to Cubase VST 5.2 PB1 beta 7. Rocksolid.
